I find, on servers i play on online games, that when there is someone so insanely good that no one else has a chance, they will often be faced with accusations of cheating.
i've rarely been accused of this, and a lot of the time accuse people, mostly because i find it amusing to see people getting worked up about it.

But my point, and the point of the question, is when it comes down to a voteban, does it matter if they are cheating or not, if either way they are ruining the game for the majority of the server by being so good that they leave others no chance?

I make exceptions for players that are fun to chat with, or at least are amusing as they kill people, but for the no-mic supa-pros, if it comes to a voteban decision, i always choose to ban.

what do people think?

edit: to clarify, here's a situation where this came up, ...
I was playing on a 2fort server, and i'm usually a scout, sniper or medic.
This guy logs on, spawns as a scout, and he starts taking out snipers with his pistol, as he crosses the bridge, he is also taking out other characters as well, and our entire team is complaining that something there is wrong. someone spectates him, finds out he somehow has no spread at all on his pistol. but the point i'm raising is that does it matter if he is cheating or not, if he is ruining the game for people, be it by pro skills or by pro hacks, surely what he is banned for is ruining the game, not cheating?

Theres a big difference in playing good and cheating.

If you want to kick a player from your game just cause he is better than you, its a bit unfair for the good player.

If you want to play a game were the good player gets screwed play Mario Kart. Were losing is better than winning.

I suck at games, and as soon as a kill someone I'm accused of cheating.

Like recently in TF2 I was accused of making invisible sticky grenades.

YOU CAN'T MAKE INVISIBLE STICKY GRENADES IN TF2.

If you boot a player because he's too good you can come off as spiteful. I'm pretty sure booting a guy on account of skill is wrong, unless there's a special lobby for noobs and such. If there's an area for pros and for newer or less skilled gamers then it's feasable. If they ar cheating, and you can prove it, boot the hell out of them and block them from returning.

(not that this has ever been a problem for me, lesigh...)

I think that cheating is wrong. Superban. But kicking a person out cause they can beat you, not really fair...

But I understand your meaning. Getting fragged three seconds after I spawn...over and over and over again...sort of makes me say forget this (in much more colorful language) and go...play Mario Kart, where I at can at least finish the race even if I come in last.

Sometimes life aint fair, but it should be fun for the majority of players. So in the end, I say...yes. I would probably vote yes.

Ah, so, you take alway from the fun of others because you find it funny. Your one top guy. Not.

i guess it wasn't clear, i don't cheat to annoy people, i annoy good players by saying they hack. and if you understood that and still think that then fine. anyone who doesn't take accusations of cheating, when they aren't cheating, as a compliment has something wrong with them.

i'll add a situation to the top to try and make it clearer.

It's questionable to ban them based on skill alone, but at the same time, you're not logging on to get the crap kicked out of you. The hope is that games are balanced and everyone has a close to equal chance.

Kicking someone because they're cheating is fine, and expected.

Kicking someone because they're better than you means you're just being a *****, and that goes for everyone who votes "kick" as well.

Sorry, but that's just the truth.
Seconded.

By the way: Max! What's up? I rarely quote you these days!

it's not kicking someone for being better, it's kicking someone for being so much better that they are spoiling the game

Ah, apologies then - as you can tell, cheaters push the unhappy button, although I'm sorry it went off by mistake this time.

And sometimes, it is impossible to tell if they are simply extremely good or hacking. Hell, sometimes you can just be lucky and it'll seem like hacking.

For example, once in TF2, I shoot a cloaked spy dead. I'd seen him cloak and took a guess as to where he was with the sniper rifle and got him.

Now I see what you mean, its indeed abit of a problem. On the one hand its not fair to kick someone for being good, on the other its not fair on everyone else to have there fun time wrecked.

How are you going to get better if you don't play against people better than you?

If you don't like another player, or suspect them of cheating then leave the game. As for bieng beaten by a better player, well if your ego can't take the death of the pixels you are controlloing, maybe you ought to reassess your life.

Thats a problem we have on a CoD2 Server. Sometimes we can identify Hacks with ease but others, its either such a high caliber of skill it honestly is mistaken for hacking. and 90% I end up proving the thoery right if they hack or not by using and simulating the same thing. the annoying part is when they bind a scoped rifle to auto shoot. once your in aim on an enemy, IN SCOPE you'll shoot automatically. Was a nightmare getting him. [Face -> Desk]

Also to getting better, for me reguardless who I verse, I wont get better. my skill depnds on my mood. Im im pissed off i'll suck. if im drunk or happy, i'll go well. and if im compleatly crazy and syniacal, i'll go on a shotgun rampage. >:D

Take it as a compliment.
