I'm tempted to go with them all, but it really depends show to show. It's also bad that I tend to compare them all to Gungrave, which I hold as a masterpiece in the genre.

I have absolutely no problems with anime itself. Unlike SOME FUCKING PEOPLE AHEM AHEM THREAD I AM TALKING TO YOU I am hardly close-minded enough to just declare it all shit after only, what, two or three examples.

I do, however, seriously dislike the obsessors. The weeaboos. Fucking idiots in love with an imaginary culture.
If I talked to any of them before I saw some of the anime that were genuinely good, I would never have gone near it.

There are zealots to everything, and in the realm of Japanese animation they're no different.

The only gripe I have about anime itself - despite watching and using the techniques for my own for the better part of the last 10 or so years - is that most of the stories seem to play out the same. Harem titles, shounen titles, shoujo titles... it's hard for me to find something that actually grabs my interest nowadays. :/

I really do like anime but I really can't stand any of it now.I loved Dbz and a lot of the classics and they were still good after butchery in America but now,I really don't get involved because most of it is killed by romance groupings fans or otherwise and most are just kind of pathetic. It is a good medium which is killed off rather easily.

I'm a huge anime fan, and I hate the anime with gratuitous breast shots, stupid amounts of poorly done action and the like (aka the anime that somehow gets popular outside of Japan).

All of the options in the poll.

I've tried it (various examples from people, I tried to get into it) but I couldn't get into it at all.

I do like anime, but one of the things that I wish would change are the obsessive types. As Yahtzee described them: "Girls who write crossover fanfictions and smell like old meat."

Usually what drives me away is the plot if it doesn't contribute anything to what just happened earlier, or if it's just complete nonsense. For example I just got finished with watching all three seasons of Higurashi. Now the first season was excellent with well rounded cast of characters with grim murders and mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. The second season was good, but for a different reason. It too was good, but this time it centered around the conquering of
Takano's plan to take over Hinamizawa
. Although Rika's brooding kind of pissed me off though. However the third season was by far the weakest addition to any anime I've ever seen besides the additional sagas to DBZ. And here's why: Why is Hanyuu now a ghost again? And why does nobody remember Hanyuu or question her being a ghost? Any why is Takano there?
Wasn't she defeated and/or given a good past from the Witch of Bernkastel so now she has no incentive to investigate Hinamizawa?
That season, while funny, had so many continuity errors, I couldn't stand it.

Any of the ones I would ever be bothered to look into are either too serious for my liking, or go the other end of the scale and go all "Desu desu desu, BIG HEAD REACTION!", neither of which appeal to me.
I'm sure there are some that go down the middle, but quite frankly, I can't be bothered to watch 'em anyway.

Well...
1. I really dislike the art style. This is not abstract art, this is animation. A horrendously poor quality animation. (Same way as abstract art is a horrendously poor quality photograph).
2. I strongly dislike the highly emphasized emotions. I recognize that this may be considered normal in Japanese face-to-face communication (although in my experience with Japanese engineers, they act nothing like it), but it's distracting and actually precludes good voice acting.

I can't tell you much about stories/writing, simply because I have not seen enough anime to really speak about anime writing as a whole. (Assuming there even is such a thing). In either case, my biggest issues with anime are the two above, not writing.

Never ran into annoying fans though.

I love anime and I watch a lot of it.

BUT

I really really REALLY HATE how everyone runs around and drinks tea in most of them. I myself, just don't have a taste for tea. I would like to LEARN to drink it though so I can enjoy the health benefits of drinking tea. I was watching Magical Girl Nanoha (Mind you, I've seen A's and StrikerS and StrikerS was fucking awesome) and these 7-9 year old girls were drinking tea and having discussions like adults..

There is a reason why I gave it a 2 out of 10 in score -____-
Really?

I dont recall eve seeing someone in anime drinking tea at all.

And I've seen a lot of them.

First off, Welcome to the Escapist! Enjoy your stay, just stay out of the basement.

Don't worry, the annoying fans will come. Weeaboos seem to be attracted like flies to these threads.

I'm severly disappointed by recent seasons, with a grand amount of like 5 decent shows coming out in the last 2 years.
At least they still make good movies, even if the series suck. Been getting some good stuff in that department.

So yeah, my problem is the usual "Everything was so much better back in the day". But it's true.

I'm getting tired from the oversexualization in anime. It doesnt help that the anime that have good stories have these boobs...

I agree there, but I also think that the old school shows are partially to blame. When someone realized that stuff like DBZ and Pokemon were really popular, they decided that they could show people anything, and they would watch it for the sake of it being anime.
Oversaturization.

The fanbase... Ho the fanbase. I hate the fanbase, now there are some fans that are just like the everyday geek (much like most if not all the people here including my self) and the rest are obsessed and preachy. Seriously, these people will consider cartoon not from Japan as "For children" or bash anything not Japanese.

Also the same with Manga, Christ... I was in WHSmiths a while back with my cousin and some arsehole friend of his brother would just keep correcting me every time I said comic. Which would be understandable if I was talking about Manga, I was talking about Batman comics... Every time "Manga", every time I said it... I felt like telling the pretentious fat prick to piss off.

So yeah, the pretentious preachy fanbase as put me off most of it. I do still like Ghost in the Shell and DBZ, though the DBZ I prefer is the FUNamation dub so I guess that will be another thing for them to whine at me about.

I like anime. and for me, people saying anime is bad is like saying halo is bad; doesnt affect how and when i watch/play it, i just deny watching/playing it
