Poll: Project Natal: an overrated piece of hardware, or a patron saint of next gen. gaming?

It is an even bigger gimmick than the wii. At least with the motion plus and the fact the wii remote has buttons, it can be used well in all games, motion controls or not. Natal will only be able to be used in certain games, making it a giant waste on money unless they come up with many good ones.

Though I think it's a better idea than what the wii has been using, I don't really think motion controls will ever be a viable platform for any serious gaming. Casual gamers can enjoy it all they want but I can't see it replacing my regular controller any time soon.

Why are people comparing this...to Nintendo...im assuming your all talking about the Wiimotes?

It's nothing like it, for one your not holding anything...you are the controller, and if it's anything like I've seen on adverts and trailers, it's going to be much better than the i-TOY.

No need to jump to conclusions because they are created by Microsoft, they have created some fairly decent hardware and software in the past, so surely they can still create great things?

Unless they acctualy fail like a nun a cucumber field...

But i do have high hopes for this, i really hope it works =)

EDIT: Also i see complaints about relaxation... im pretty sure you wills till be able to play controller games if you want to relax, it's not like they are forcing you to use it every time you turn on the console.

As technology, it's pretty impressive. However, many systems in the past are proof that tech isn't enough to make quality or gain success. It has to have real support and direction to work. As far as I'm concerned, the motion controls for the 360 and PS3 so far are just an answer to the Wii and are to attempt stealing the casual market that the Wii has locked away. There would be no way for the 360 or PS3 to beat the Wii's sales if they didn't make these peripherals. At the moment nothing inexplicably hardcore has really been shown and I doubt anything that comes with it at launch will be too high in real quality. I see more potential with Natal because it does not use a controller. That gives me ideas and thoughts about still being able to play with a traditional control but maybe taking my hand off for a second to do something intuitive.

I can't use it because I don't have the space (motion control and small dorm rooms don't mix well), and I really doubt that it would lend itself to any game I would actually like to play.

As many have said, this is clearly Microsoft and Sony trying to get some casual players on their side and maybe shoot Nintendo off the hegemony it's had this generation in terms of sales.

As for Natal's technology, it seems impressive enough (if you forget about the E3 catastrophe), however, without a price tag it's hard to determine if it's gonna be worth the money and the fact that early adopters will of course be guinea pigs. I heard somewhere that it was gonna be around US$70, which would be a decent amount. Now, if marter is right and it's around US$200, I'd pass. Being a PS3 owner, I'd have to pass on the Sony Motion Control, which is pretty much the same.

Furburt was right.

It could do well or it could be a piece of flashy crap, without the final product in front of us all we can do guess (lots of people were saying that Gears 2 was either gonna be the same as before but with the colour orange but it actually turned out alright).

I'm usually cynical but I won't be prejudice about this. Though I will say their advertisement (the one I've seen) failed completely. Fitted more for a TV Shop ad or something, a happy family playing together and laughing to whatever isn't the holocaust. Freaks me out. If the Natal seeks such an audience I'm outta here.

PS
I'm not saying all normal families are miserable.

There was a time when people couldn't understand why you would want color TV in the home, a computer, surround sound, etc...

I don't know what Natal will wind up becoming after it is released. It might be a defective product and fail, it might be one of the next big things in home entertainment. I think people should try it and see for themselves.

The wii anyone remember how great that was at the start? Anyone know a person who actually plays the wii in even a semi-regular fashion? People will love Natal IN THE BEGINNING, 2-4 weeks later they will have discorvered the serious microsoft glitches and abandon it to play games in way that is fun.

I'm so over motion controls. I had an one of those motion cameras for the PS2, and while I understand this tech is much more advanced I just don't see the types of games I like to play being fesable on such a system.

I voted Bwuh, because honestly there was not a good answer for me. Once I get some first hand experience I will love putting input on it, but right now I don't think my opinion quite cuts it for either a turn down/promotion.

Also, Lol@people still calling them Failboxes, I still own my 360 since Launch, and it still chugs along fine.

I'm not really into console hating but I do hate motion control in most cases, wii bowling? Fun game, zelda, flailing around? ..Not so much.

I didn't much like playing with the Eyetoy and Natal seems to be Eyetoy5000 so more of what I don't care for. I play games to relax and work off frustration not to jump up and down like a ADHD child or to interact with a kid whatever that was about.

I'm an old fashioned console gamer, give me controllers and peace of mind. At least with a controller, the game typically responds to the same commands the SAME way.
