Yes, it should be legal. Officialy, not via loopholes.

Reasons: health care, less abuse, more taxes for the government.

No street walking. Licenced brothels only. Must have security. Regular government checkups to ensure the girls are not being forced into it, are using proper protection and are not all drug fucked. Monthly STD tests.

As long as those rules are followed to ensure both their and the customers safety then there is absolutely no reason not to allow it.
^This. Basically, the porn treatment.

In an ideal world I'd say get rid of the business altogether; well, this isn't an ideal world. If anything, legalization would most certainly help stem the flow of STDs, and if the brothels have PROPER regulations, and the girls weren't being mistreated, then hey it beats the whole street walker concept.

it's legal here where i'm from, brothel, call service and street prostitution. health check every 4 weeks if i remember right, and condoms are mandator (some illegally agree to condomles sex for extra money though). however, pinmping is illegal. prostitutes even have a union and a set (pretty high) minimal wage. it works rather well really.

but there are also problems. there is still a lot of abuse, and many of them are desperate girls who would have gotten in huge financial problems otherwise. so it is kind of touchy and sad that it exists. however, no matter how harsh the law would be, there will always be prostitution. always was. so it's probably better to legally have and regulate it.

Yeah I'd have it legalized and have it strictly regulated. The pimp is responsible for the well being of all his bitched and hoes :p. Okay jokes aside, yeah I think it would be a good idea. If it was legalized (I think it is in some places) it would be easier to control and much safer for both prostitute and customer.

Street Walking no, licensed brothels yes. It's a profession. If someone wants to sell their own body (their own choice, not being forced to do it) they should be allowed. It would allow for regulations to be brought in to make sure the clients and professions are clean and safe.

Theres a brothel, or whatever it's called in english, behind my towns police department, so i do belive it's quite legal in Denmark, As long as you pay taxes from what you earn.

Personaly i'm fine with that, as long as they pay their dues.

Yes, you should be able to do with your body what you want. If you want to have your kidney removed by an unlicenced doctor so you can sell it, you should be able to do so.

Legalizing it alone wouldn't be enough. As others have pointed out, it would also have to be regulated rather severely.

Of course, there's still the matter of the attached stigma.

Yes, but only if it is regulated. People's bodies belong to them and they should have the right to use them as they want, but something like prostitution would have to be regulated: birth control and other contraceptives, health checks and possibly even health screenings for potential customers. Otherwise it just leads to unwanted children and the spread of disease.

Over in the UK we do have some escort agencies that give the girls a measure of protection, Mostly the police leave them alone but its not enough. Prostitution should be legalized, brothels should be licensed and above all the women should be Protected. Imo a woman should be able to use her body however she wants as long as she isn't hurting anyone and contrary to what campaigners like to say there are plenty out there who do the job because they choose to and prefer it to other less well-paying jobs.

Why shouldn't you sell what's yours to give for free anyway?

Also it'd have to be on a strictly individual scale. When companies get made out of this the trouble starts.

It is legal here n the UK
That's true and not quite true at the same time. Prostitution is legal, however offering to sell sex, looking to buy sex, or running an institute that sells sex is illegal.

This means the act itself is legal but any way of bringing a prostitute and a client together are illegal, so it is still technically illegal. It's a very strange situation and I don't know why our law is that way.

However we do now have prostitution tolerance zones in some cities. These are semi-official, so you'll not find any law allowing there use, I used to live in one in Leicester. These are where the police have agreed to turn a blind eye just to keep the girls in one place.

Its the oldest profession on the planet.

You'll never eradicate it, so you should regulate it.

I remember I had to research this issue for an assignment once, and came across a blog written by a woman who happened to be in San Fransisco during a rally for legalizing prostitution. She saw a guy in a wheelchair holding a sign that read "Disabled People Deserve Sex Too." It made her wonder if maybe prostitution fills a need that we're not entirely comfortable talking about, but is no less real for it.

Make it illegal and it won't go away, you'll just make it harder for those working in that "industry" and cutting off their support if they have problems like being enslaved by a pimp or w/e.

Make it legal, at least it offers some legal protection for those working in a rather dangerous profession...
