I used to think I was psychic back when I watched TV a lot there were lots of reruns usually in my head during the day before the episode started I would think of quotes from a specific episode, and what do you know it was always that episode that came on, but I can't explain it and I don't think I am psychic it would be awesome if I was telekinetic though

Actually Soviets were supposed to have some lady that bent spoons and stuff like this. But they ditched the program after unsatisfactory results.

Psychics no

Telekinetic energy however exists
It's the electricity used via synapses

Tecnology could make it usable
But without the technology no it won't happen

Yup, it's there. Just because people can't see it now doesn't mean it exists.

A quick question to everyone who apparently knows it doesn't exist. If I told you a hundred years or so ago that the world was made up of... Ohh, let's call them "particles". That sounds small... What would you have said to me? How about if I told you we could take pictures through skin, or see in the dark without a light scource? How about landing on the moon being more than science fiction?

If you're now thinking "I would have said they existed, or at least heard you out", you're lying to yourself. It's fools like you who are holding back science!

Burden of Proof states that people who make the claim need to back it up with evidence, not those who disagree.

If you stated that everything was made up of particles and didn't provide any evidence to support your claims, of course people would disagree - same as if I claimed that all particles are shaped like smiley faces. Evidence or GTFO.

The same can be said for Psychics. These people claim to have psychic ability, present what is essentially cold reading, are consistently proven to be fraudulent and then we're expected to say "Oh, well maybe they exist anyway?"

With no evidence to support the existence of psychics, the only logical conclusion is that they don't exist. Once proof to the contrary comes to light, then perhaps people would change their views.

So... It doesn't matter if it exists or not, is basically your point here. I can't prove to you that we can land on the moon, so if I told you that, it could never happen?

You can provide proof and evidence that we have landed on the moon.

You can't provide proof and evidence for psychics.

The problem is not that you can't prove psychics are real, it's that noone has ever proved they are real. People pretend they're real on television or internet, but when the time comes to actually prove it they consistently fail.

Also, I'm reminded of a quote that applies here:
Stephen Jay Gould said:
In science, 'fact' can only mean 'confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.' I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms.
Science doesn't say that psychic phenomena are absolutely, 100% impossible. It does say that, with what we currently know, the belief in such things is unsubstantiated and nonsensical. Just like, in the quote, it might happen that an apple falls upwards, but with what we know about the world it's highly unreasonable to assume that a falling apple will rocket into the sky.

Yes-Because the world is still full of things that can not be explained by science, religion, and/or basic senses. Who am I to deny the existance of the unexplained? I am not saying I am a flake that will believe everything that I hear though.

Erana, you're confusing real life with metal gear again.
Dammit, no, Erana's completely right. That's not friggin' Metal Gear! Yes, during the Cold War (and for many years afterward) the government had many agents who were supposedly psychic. They also dabbled in projects to unlock the secrets of psychics. I don't think it worked, but they haven't spoken on it since then, so who knows? Maybe there is an Alma somewhere! (Yeah, that's likely)
Well, the CIA had a project with 'psychics', which lasted for 20 years. Not much came out of it though and it is tought the reason they continued it for so long was so that the Americans would have an excuse when they discovered something with for example a top secret spy satellite.

I hate ignorance, and part of me feels that these "psychics" (John Edward and Lisa Williams especially) need to be exposed for the charlatans that they are.

but another part of me feels that, if some people are stupid enough to believe their lies, then they deserve to be swindled

One of the main arguments for psychics ("normal people only use 10% of their brain durp-de-durp") has been disproven long ago and no study so far has managed to provide any significantly better results by psychics (you know, guessing card symbols or drawing stuff and whatnot) in actual experiments than statistical probability would allow them to.
Interestingly, once again, I like psychics and Psi and all this stuff in fiction. But it's just that, fiction.

...homeopathy...
Aw, come now, it's just as effective as placebo-treatment and we know that placebos have a certain real effect on patients.
That said, I'd still prefer a sugar pill.
Too bad that my parents believe in homeopathy. I don't. So if it works on them, it's all placebo. And it doesn't work on me, because I know it's not worth a damn.
