I know it's a kind of stupid question, but I just started taking AP U.S. History and it made me think of a question that I want to know. Are you guys mad that we won the Revolutionary War? If so why? Do you think we would be better off if you guys won?

Now I figure most of you guys being so far down the line that you wont give two shits but the question has been bothering me and I had to ask.

Well, I dunno about the people in the U.k, but as a Canadian I'm really happy you guys won. After that all we had to do was ask nicely and they folded.

Nope, I'm from the UK and I fully support the right of people to self determination, anywhere, anytime and anyhow.

EDIT: PS, I love the United States and hope to move there with my wife in a few years time.

Water under the bridge. I've lived for extended periods in both the UK and America, and generally it seems like the UK is more objective about their own history, as opposed to here in the US where we think of ourselves as always being on the right side of every war we've fought.

Couldn't care less.
I think anyone who did would need to build a bridge n get over it.

Slightly off topic, I think the UK should keep it's nose out of everyone elses affairs and stop trying to please the world. No one wants us to and we dont get any thanks for it. EDIT: I also think giving countries their Independence over the last 50 - 100 years was our best move

Meh. I was never a fan of the Empire, so I don't care. It depends on who you ask. Anyone on here probably won't care, but I remember asking my grandad about it and he replied "damn Yanks!" only half-jokingly. Make of that what you will.

It's not really covered in our school curriculum so I think you'll find most British people will have barely heard of it, let alone care about it....

As for me, no I couldn't really care less. Mind you, I don't particularly care that we won world war 2 either...

Im from the uk and to be honest i dont really care we underestimated the revolution and got our asses handed to us because of it.

It like asking if the americans are angry or upset about losing in vietnam. It old news and the americans are friends with us so its cool.

No. The British aren't so big on wars these days. England stopped caring about it all 50 years ago and the rest of the UK have been struggling for independence themselves. I think the only country that seems to care anymore is the US.

I really don't care. I find it funny when americans try to rub my face in it on xbox live as if something neither I nor they were alive for is supposed to mean ANYTHING to me.

Isn't Canada technically "sort of" under our rule though?

Damn traitorous colonials! Just wait, the Redcoats are already on their way back to claim what is rightfully ours!

Perhaps if a couple of World Wars hadn't happened, as a nation we'd perhaps see our loss to you as something more significant that would stand out in the psyche of the nation as a whole. As it goes, we have the Germans to collectively lord it over and mock at any given oppertunity. The really amusing thing is, the Germans couldn't give a toss about us and see us in nowhere near the same light that we see them.

It wasn't really covered at school in history, we tended to focus on 1066 and the battle of haystings, and the bayeaux tapestry, things from like 500 years ago still seem too modern it would seem 0_o

Weird sidenote, wasn't the UK at war with napoleon at the time?

It's not really one I'm mad about. Although I do maintain that had you not won, Napoleon wouldn't have been able to rise to power, which means that the entire history of Europe would have been altered, meaning of course that neither World War would have happened.

It wasn't covered very much to be honest.

Pretty much this. Being British, I really couldn't care less that we had our asses handed to us, and it is true that the only country that cares any more is America. We got beat years ago, we have fought wars together, we even had a 'special' relationship, I think we have put our differences aside
