Well, when I'm not standing over my map of the earth, holding a grenade and plotting world domination, I'm crying about our loss.

Honestly: I don't really think anyone here cares that much.

Though usually as a joke i'll go down the Al Murray route and say that we let you win because we realised that America was more trouble than its worth.

I don't mean this of course, I use it solely as a joke or retaliatory comment when an American decides to try and mock me online because hes heard my voice and knows i'm from the UK.

America is a baby nation, imo it doesn't have enough history to be blase about particular events like that.
I'm English, and do not care. For a tiny island nation to unite (or more accurately, get united) and to have effectively ruled the seas and therefore trade, leading to a control (or form of it) over most of the globe, is impressive enough for a country's history.

Well, it happened way before my time and to be honest if we kept a grip on your country I think that the world would be a shitty place to live in because we haven't had the best track-record when it comes to having a significant amount of power over a large population (the Empire).

Anyway, to answer the question it's not much of a massive point of interest for me since all it does is start arguments and I've got too many American friends for me to get annoyed at them for winning a war against us. I'm more into the stability of our current relationship and how well we get along with each other and, I hope, for many more years to come.

I don't care about history. It dosn't seem like a important point in history, America isn't the only country to become inderpendent

hey, no war of independence would mean no america. no america means no rock music (although we perfected it), no movies and no microsoft or apple.

I'd say those are some positive things to come out of it.
I doubt nationality would have much to do with this...

Good evening. I'm not British by any means, in fact I'm Irish, but I'll answer for my British friends and say that they really don't seem to care much at all. They don't really like America, but for different reasons.

Now the Irish War of Independence and the Troubles, every English person I've talked to about it is still quite touchy about it.

So no, the result of the Revolutionary war isn't that annoying to the Brits I know.
As are most Irish people from the last few generations. Considering all thats happened im not suprised

OT: I think no one really cares about it OP. Its not like Britain has a day of mourning on the 4th of July. However im aware that theres is a small minority that feels strongly about restoring the british empire to what it once was. Though i think its a very small group

All i'm saying is that the USA has given us enough great things for me to be glad it exists, a usa that was part of britain would undoubtedly be different to how it is now and the things I mentioned may never have existed in the sense they do now.

generally it seems like the UK is more objective about their own history, as opposed to here in the US where we think of ourselves as always being on the right side of every war we've fought.
Unless you happen to be Scottish...

How ridiculous. Why would I hold people in contempt for the actions of their ancestors? That's like those people who keep going on about Nazism upon any mention of Germans.

The empire was fun when it lasted and it was a big reminder that we used to rock, but we don't now, so I picked don't care.

Are you guys mad that we won the Revolutionary War? If so why? Do you think we would be better off if you guys won?
Keep reading the history from both sides, and question their sources. I think it'd be a very tough call to say you "won".

You separated from England as the sovereign nation. Not the same thing. Same could be said about India and Hong Kong.
Good point, I mainly said we won because we earned what we were fighting for, to be independent.

Im British, and in all honesty, i dont care much for the Revolutionary War. I know next to nothing about. However, it would be nice to see some American 12 year olds abuse me over MWF2 with the fact that you beat us then just be verbally abused for where im from.

Yeah, thats why I love the quote from Dazed and Confused "...and remember the only reason your practicing these freedoms is because a group of rich white men didn't want to pay their taxes."

I hate when I see that shit on live, and you know if you ask them about a specific battle they wouldn't have a damn clue what you were talking about.

But of course. I was recently told that Americans were saving our asses in the war with Russia. >.>
