I am not angry about it, we pwnd the rest of the world and now you know. :D

But I think if you werent so against doing anything similar to other countries your governemnt might be less divided, corrupt and might actually think about the best interests of the people.

I know our politicians arent great examples of humanity, they are politicians after all... but when lobbying is mentioned here... its a bad thing. Doesnt matter if you are right or left wing, you get pissed when the politicians arent doing what they can for the people. To be perfectly honest most politicians agree on most things, they are competing to be our favourite which is how it should be.

I dont think most British people care about that anyway, we just get annoyed about your revisionist history... Dont like it? One word, Texas.

We really couldn't care less. We usually get annoyed though when big-headed Americans start shoving it in our face proclaiming they're better than us because they won.

Although they don't seem to like being asked about the Vietnam war...

It's not really covered in our school curriculum so I think you'll find most British people will have barely heard of it, let alone care about it...
^This.

Even ignoring people who suck at history, most British students wouldn't be able to tell you much unless it involved the Romans, the Battle of Hastings, the Tudors or WW2. They seem to be the topics that were covered by everone I know, up to GCSE at least.

Us Brits are probably just as ignorant of America as you are of us (maybe more, there's a scary thought).

It's like those times we're told that X% of Americans don't know who Winston Churchill is (or whatever). Well, that may be so, but I'd be willing to bet that there are a even fewer Brits that know who F.D. Roosevelt is. And probably a few who couldn't even answer the first question either. People just seem woefully ignorant of pretty much everything...

I'm going to go and cry now for the inevitible death of the human race by our own retardation :'(

I couldn't care less tbh. What I do care about is Americans distorting what happened. They never seem to mention the fact that the French, the Spanish and the Dutch all contributed to the loss.

It only annoys me when ignorant people say things like 'We kicked your ass, then in WW2, we saved it!' I mean, I appreciate you helped our soldiers, but you were a bit late and you were pretty impartial before that anyway so I've always been a little bit tetchy over how arrogant some Americans can be over the issue when thousands of mens lives are to be trivialised for a half-arsed boast.

Other than that, I'm glad America turned out the way it did.

Good point, I mainly said we won because we earned what we were fighting for, to be independent.
Check up on that as well, the move for Independence was heavily criticized by some of your Founding Fathers. One of the big bugbears in History is the idea of things happening by providence. The push for independence was just the slogan for "Manifest Destiny", which lead to a whole heap of troubles, and ultimately to the American Civil War.

There's a marvellous "What If?" scenario where the King of England decides to retire to this "peaceful land of opportunity" and moves the axis of power to America at the time of the Revoloution. The upshot of which is Britain declaring Independence from the Crown of America.

Well worth a look to understand the deep divisions behind it.

Congratulations on being the creator of a new Evil Plan (tm)!

Your objective: World Domination

Your motive: Power

Stage One:
To begin your plan, you must first assassinate the leader of the freeworld. This will cause the world to sit up and take notice, stunned by your arrival. Who is this Guy? Where did he come from? And why do they look so good in a robe?

Stage Two:
Next, you will Steal the Internet. This will cause countless hordes of Stormtroopers/internet-people to flock to you, begging to do your every bidding. Your name will become synonymous with All that is wrong with the world, as lesser men whisper your name in terror.

Stage Three:
Finally, you will Covertly Move your Needlessly Big Weather Machine, bringing about a 1984 Police State. This will all be done from a Underground Secret Headquarters of Doom, an excellent choice if we might say. These three deeds will herald the end, and the citizens of this planet will have no choice but to elect you their new god.

Trust us, it'll all come together in the end.

*Stage four:
release the kraken

Now I figure most of you guys being so far down the line that you wont give two shits but the question has been bothering me and I had to ask.
Not really. The most important event in your history is only a footnote in ours. Even at the time it wasn't a big deal for us.

Nowadays we have other things to be angry about, anyway. Like our shoddy MPs or the chavs who keep throwing tennis balls over our fence.

The old British way of colonising a country;

1) Sail over to a country with an indigenous population with inferious weaponry.
2) Stand well back.
3) Muskets
4) Tax!

This didn't work so well in America. What can I say though, you guys just wanted it more.

In all seriousness, I'm not bothered that much. In fact I think I prefer things the way they are.

I'll think you'll find that's the Spanish way, minus number 4.

The English were mostly peaceful to start with, given they were Religious.

It ended 200 years (almost to the day) before I was born, so why should I care? For that matter, why should anyone alive today care?

Given the number of times I've been asked this exact same question by Americans (dozens), compared to the number of times I've heard it mentioned by fellow Brits outside of high school history class (precisely zero), I'd say you guys are a hell of a lot more hung up on it than we are.

That happened about 250 years ago. I don't think anyone cares about that now.
