In a simple comparison, no; humans are worth more. We have a higher level of consciousness, a sense of self which is unique to us and everything that comes with that.
It makes us better than all other animals.

But we need animals for food and to sustain ecosystems. So in some cases you might say the life of an animal is more important than that of a human. You could make some cliché moral dilemma out of it.

And then you have things like mosquitos. They serve no purpose in the world at all. So their life isn't worth anything compared to any other animal. Or plant. Or rock. Mosquitos suck.

This reminds me of a quote.
"All animals are equal, some are just more equal than others."
Horrible quote but, yes, I am not vegetarian and I quite enjoy meat. I think it comes down to how much you dehumanise something - equality shifts. For example, your pet dog - what sort of sadist would kill their pet dog? But that same dog-owner may go out hunting and shoot rabbits.
It's a trick question and there is no real answer.

Animals and humans are both food and companionship, just on different levels.

Depends on the animal being compared. Anything smaller than a human is worth less, and anything bigger than a human is worth more. I guess it also depends on individual preference. Either way, they're both delicious.

Are we talking market price per pound?
Yes. Just yes.

I wouldn't actually kill an animal, but I have no problem with eating meat. It being already dead and all that.

I WOULD say it depends on the animal, but as far as I can consider all possible scenarios, humans > animals

Oh, scratch that- I just considered say, a generic genocidest dictator (there's quite a lot of them nowadays) against, say, a harmless hummingbird- so it really depends on if we're talking about specific humans and animals or average human vs. average wild animal, in the latter case I would always say humans > animals.

This is a troublesome Question, because a majority of Humans will vote No, when useless twits from PETA will vote Yes *I am Serious, they are Twits*. But thinking of fact, A humans life is more important, for we are sentient, however, we would never live without sustenance, such as Animals. Most of what Humanity has created through their opposable thumbs is from Animals. From Pouches to actual ideas on how things work naturally, and convert that natural idea into something mechanical. An animals claws are sharp, Humans countered this by creating weapons to protect themselves. Humans did not have Clothes while Animals did, so we took the skin of the Beast to warm ourselves. In all honesty, Humanity would not be where it is right now without Animals in any way, shape, or form. Though a Humans life is important, what made them important to begin with? Animals you twits *not directed towards PETA that time, they still are twits though*.

To all those who think an animals life is just as important as a humans....
Would you risk your life to save an animals with a 50/50 probability that you will die?

I thought not.

No. As much as I love my pets...I will eat my dog and cat before I eat another human being. I wouldn't die for an animal either.

I must say no because I want our species to survive and therefore our lives are more meaningful. I bet dogs think the same way ^^
I don't say animals lives don't have meaning but it's normal survival instict to put your own life before someone elses.
