It makes us better than all other animals.
But we need animals for food and to sustain ecosystems. So in some cases you might say the life of an animal is more important than that of a human. You could make some cliché moral dilemma out of it.
And then you have things like mosquitos. They serve no purpose in the world at all. So their life isn't worth anything compared to any other animal. Or plant. Or rock. Mosquitos suck.
