I would wanna spend the day with Joss Whedon. Though Felica Day comes a close second.

Well, I'd rather meet Neil Patrick Harris, J.R.R Tolkien, Ian McKellen, Jesus, Morrissey, Robert Smith and Obama than meet, say, Bar Rafaeli, Lacey Mosley, Hayley Williams, and a number of other hawt people. Don't know why, really.

ahah.
NO.

wow. the vast majority of females i know don't idolise someone because they're cute. the people I idolise, i do not see that way because they're "cute". it's because they have genuine talent or whatever. & I know that holds true for every female friend of mine that i can think of.

although, male: i'd have to go with jonny craig. talented man with one hell of a voice and personality.
or Jesse from Brand New.

female: i have no idea. There's no females I particularly idolise...

As for females, I wouldn't say no to Helena Bowen Carter. That woman is beautiful and a role model.
Don't you mean Helena Bonham Carter? She always plays the role of creepy ugly psycho hose beast in films. Yeah. Not beautiful.

For me it's either the guys in Slipknot (if they count as celebrities) or Ayumi Hamasaki. I'd prefer to meet the former because we could hang out and play CoD, but I just don't know what I'd say to Ayu. I'd just be standing there with my jaw dropped trying to figure out the best way to praise her for her music.

I think I'd prefer to spend a day with my favourite male celebrity. I'm not sure what I'd say to Summer Glau, it would probably be pretty awkward.

I would really like to meet Jonathan Coulton or Jon Stewart. I know I wouldn't be able to "woo" any female celebrities, so I'd much rather have an intelligent meeting with someone. That said, women are inherently weak-minded and pose very little in the way of conversation. :p

Edit: One other person would be Bill O'Reilley so I could punch him in the face for being an idiot.

I think I'd prefer Male, since there are more male celeberties I find interesting than there are female.

Probably Will Smith. 'Cause I am a fanboy of him. Or one of the Top-Gear three.

Or Paolini would be fun. I'd finally get to point out the faults of his book and he'd be forced to listen.

Ooops. Knew I should have Googled it.
Well, that's your opinion, but she's beautiful in my eyes. And that's why I like her, she'd take on roles other Hollywood girls wouldn't even think of doing.

I voted male, no question about it.

I'd like to meet Ed Robertson, he's a clever song writer to say the least.

Male, for sure. That narrows it down to which celebrity... Sure, i'd love to spend a day with Jon Stewart or Craig Ferguson, but i'm thinking Mitch Hedburg. That'd just be EPIC.

My initial thoughts are that females idolise their favourite celebrities because, quite simpily, they are cute. Males on the other hand are less interested in the opposite sex when it comes to celebrities, and look up to their favourite musicians, actors or writers.
Have you ever asked a female who she looks up to? I mean, maybe you should do that as well? Just saying, "This is only for male Escapists because females are essentially shallow" and then backing that up by saying you are permitted to make generalizations because it happens in psychology...that just seems kind of weak when you could have just as easily asked for both genders and then drawn your conclusion from that.

But, I will answer your question, just because.

I can appreciate talented actors/actresses like Johnny Depp, Liam Neeson, Nicole Kidman and such because they are genuinely talented and I have many authors and musicians I like--that said picking one actor/writer/musician to put on a pedestal above the rest is essentially useless. I'm not really someone who looks up to celebrities--unless they want to offer to pay my student loan bills.

In your post it was a little unclear how you defined celebrities--you seemed to imply that it was something that was not an actor, musician or writer; which would be people I would normally pin as celebrities...so...

I guess if I was going to spend the day with someone famous, I would pick Barack Obama because I would want to ask him a ton of questions about policy and such. So, no, I wouldn't pick Obama because he's "cute", I would pick him because he's interesting.

No offense to dudes.
I just prefer ladies.
Pretty much this. Women tend to be more interesting than men. Hell, I'm a man and I say that I'm not that interesting.

Depends, would I have a chance of getting somewhere with the female celeb? In that case, probably the female celeb (Briana Evigan). Otherwise, you're right, I choose a musician. Either John 5, the best metal/country shredder of all time, or Steve Vai, the best "emotional shredder", as I like to call him.

considering i'd go gay for johnny depp, there's no competition.

as for your poll, i hate it when obviously talentless male or female celebrities are revered for their looks.
