Anyway, this is the second Ps3 to break on me, possibly the third, and this one I've had since late 2008. Now, I take good care of my consoles, never drop them or anything, try to keep dust away and so on. However how is this possible? I understand that the Ps3 failure rate is low and ps3's are built to last...? Atleast longer than about 2-3 years? So what's going on, am I unlucky, cursed or is the Ps3 more fragile than Sony would make it out to be?

Hey, it happens. Some guys go through 3 or more 360s, some guys go through 3 or more PS3s. Hell, I once heard stories from a guy of how he's gone through something like 5 PS3s and is currently on his 6th (one of them he accidentally ran over with a truck, but the other 4 died on their own without any mistreatment by the owner).

So yeah, you can be the unfortunate guy who somehow manages to keep buying a console out of the small percent of them that are faulty. It sucks, but it happens.

As for what you should do, I can't say for sure. You need to decide if you need to be playing RIGHT NOW which means buying a new one, or if you can wait it out to get a repair done.

I suggest getting a used one for 200, ave on money. Then spend your free week playing on your PC, since you have already answered in the thread that you have a good gaming PC (so i assume you have games to play on). Check out the Shogun 2 demo, if your into total war games.

Mine slim has been working sooo hard to please me, not given up yet.

Must be bad luck, those things are brilliant.

The slims always do better then the fatties. I have had my PS2 slim for 6 years now and it has kept me happy though it all. It has never broke down, never over-heated even when I played 12 hour straight and left it on for 2 days straight. My friends PS2 fat? Boy did it fuck up.
CD-Tray fucking FELL OUT. and before that It overheated many times.

Man, that's some bad luck. I've had mine since June 2008 and it still works like a charm. Still, to be prudent, I have laid aside some money should the worst come to pass and it breaks down. My advise would be to get a used one if you have such a high failure rate. Beats having a new one break down.

OT: I assume you have a library of ps3 games and your own reason for getting a PS3 initially so stick with it (I prefer the 360 but I'm not you).

Get an old school chunky PS3 and swap the Hard drive.

Good call. I always forget that there's stacks of people online, and especially on here it seems, who learned English as a second, third, fourth or more language.

Being an Aussie, I was never really encouraged to learn another language, although I did option for Japanese until grade 10.

I'm deffinately not as fluent in Japanese as you are in English, in fact, I wouldn't even call myself proficient, let alone fluent.
So kudos on speaking more than one language.
