Everybody in the UK who says 'Yes' obviously has no concept of 'Christmas No. 1'. Obviously I don't want a bloody Miley Cyrus song to get top spot, and I definitely don't want to see Simon Cowell get yet another Christmas victory (even though I do watch the X Factor and I do like Simon, I still hate seeing his show end up with victory each year).

But the whole point of Christmas No. 1 is that it's a Christmas song. That's what we had for years, then suddenly it's gone downhill. And The X Factor hasn't helped. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody in my family or friends buys me a CD for Christmas this year. But unless that happens, I'm not buying or listening to new CD's this Christmas, unless they're actual Christmas songs. And that includes the UK Charts as well.

I am allergic to "rebels" that work for multinational corps, so no thanks. If you want to make a political band, be a man, say no, pay the fucking price like every other non-fraud artist out there and keep it underground. Also, write less horrible lyrics. ************. UNHHHHHH.
First of all RATM lyrics are not horrible at all. Have you actually listened to them. Because "************. UGHHHHHHHH!!!," is a pretty poor simplification of what they generally sing about. Listen to "Know your enemy" and it's lyrics then come back and say they're horrible.

Also, RATM would be fucking lame if they were an underground band. Mainly because they are so outspoken about the system and all of that stuff, so to just say that to like 4 fans because they are an underground band would ruin what they are trying to achieve. As to the working for a multi-national corps, how do you think they would get they're message out without the big name publishing companys and music labels? As I said before, It wouldn't work if they were singing to like the only 4 people who had heard of them; Which would be the case if they were an underground band. And don't come and try and say they've sold out, because they haven't. They never let people film their live performances. They never appear on MTV or any of that stuff. They just made music. It's people like you who ruin the idea of RATM; Just because you;re commercially successful doesn't mean you're lame and have sold out.

I think it's fantastic. X Factor is an embarrassing insult to the music industry and one of several things I truly hate. What better song to fuck that all over with than Killing In The Name?!

Like hell am I getting an album I already own just to stop another artist who I don't care about from a show I don't care about get No.1 in a chart that I don't care about.

I like the idea of it. I own the album so I wont be buying it. Last I heard there were about 300,000 people signed up to the campaign. About 16 million people watch xfactor. I don't like your odds.

The biggest problem is that RATM only appeal to a smaller part of the population. Rick Astley would have been a more inspired choice.

Since when is "Killing in the Name" a Rage against the machine album. Jeez you guys are thick, its a single, as in a song that will likely cost you between one and two dollars, not the entire album you already have.

I own the album Rage Against the Machine with Killing in the Name on it but I may actually support this. The thing is its not about how much you like RATM, its about how much you hate the monotony of pop music bullshit. Of course I doubt theres near enough support for this to make it to number 1, but I'm sure if enough people get on board it will at least be noticed/noticeable.

Listen to pop music? Fuck you I won't do what you tell me! Thats the message, and even though I haven't listened to RATM in years I support it. The music 'scene' is complete bullshit these days.

Paragraph 1: Yes, I have listened to them, and as a matter of a fact I listened to them at a time when I was 14 and quite rebelious, not 28 and wondering why I haven't had a boner in 3 days like now. I hated them even back then. I am not oversimplifying anything, they are already oversimplified and angsty.

Paragraph 2: If I understand correctly, you are saying that you can only change the system from the inside, otherwise you have no impact. I rage so much when I read things like that. You know what that reminds me of? Denzel Washington in the movie Training Day, telling Ethan Hawke that "A good narcotics agent must know and like narcotics. In fact, a good narcotics agent must have narcotics in his blood", then hands him a crackpipe, and BAM, he's fucked. No, you do not change the system from the inside. You change the system by setting it on fire. And no, this is not just my "Greek Anarchist" side speaking. Only partially. This is all more than just a philosophical discussion though, it is a way of life and a conscious choice. You don't get there because someone told you so, you get there because that's who you are. All opinions are respected, from me at least. I could write a 2,000 word post about the way I see things, but I don't really think anyone cares.

Don't be pedantic. Besides, slightly hypocritical as this is the uk, were we have pounds. I don't care enough to pay one or two pounds to buy something already own.

This, really. Would love to see it happen (or heck, even Rick Astley), but it's probably not going to. Also, I don't live in America so there isn't much point for me in buying it...

I dont think the armies of metal are yet to rise up to plunder the land of music just yet, we must bide our time in the shadows, then strike.

I don't like RATM, but I would buy it for the noble cause of getting that X-Factor a bit lower on the chart. I definitely would buy it if it were an artist I actually like...
AND then I would buy X-Factor cd to piss off all those rebellous kids who listen to them "punks rocks and brutal metals" on their mommy-bought iPods.

After reading the comments, something tells me this topic will slowly desolve into "My band is better that yours, prove me wrong".

Why be a dick? We all know the album was not named "Killing in the name". I had the album when it was released and won't be paying for something that I've already paid over the odds to own, I'm actually old enough to remember getting it. Were you 5 when the album was released?

Only teenagers care about whats number 1 in the chart. I don't care how popular the bands I like are. Equally I don't care how popular acts I don't like are. Let the teenagers have their chart excitement, it's not hurting anyone. They will have plenty of time to worry about mortgages, prostate cancer and career progression when they get older.

Fuck no. I'm not going to by some single from a mainstream band that is complete shit just to "stick it to" some other mainstream institution that I perceive as being complete shit. On a related note, everyone who is is a complete pillock.
i hate people that hate bands for simply being mainstream oh you have to so different dont you. there is a reason for them being mainstream
