If a game is really making you that mad... why are you still playing? In an online match, just play till the end of the session, THEN quit. Don't drop out after dying 5 times. (Drives me nuts when people quit in the middle of the game because they're losing)

Offline, seriously. Put down the controller. Its just a game, and when you're that mad, you're not going to get anywhere. Go take a break, then come back.

Just... don't get so worked up about it. I'm usually a pretty calm person, so I don't really understand the urge to beat the crap out of yourself because you're stuck on a level.

It is good to rage quit, sometimes you just can't take it anymore. The only game I don't recommend it for is Halo 3. Bungie REEEEAALLY needs to fix that Penalization system. sometimes you just find yourself in a match with some hacking bastards or people you rather not play with. And what is you need to leave in the middle of a game for something in real life? Should that cost you EXP. I DON'T THINK SO!
tell me about it. bungie dont realise that there are instances where you may need to leave for an emergency. idk say..... FIRE IN THE BUILDING?? bungie are masters of online gaming. but gtfo with their penilization system

Ya I don't mind dying/losing etc.... but when it happens alot and you feel that your playing like a tool, there's only so much cursing and shouting at your computer can help the situation.

Just go make a sandwich and a cuppa n come back in a while.

There are different levels of this sort of thing. My usual argument is that quitting during a game is only acceptable if (a) it's a team-based game and you have enough teammates that your quitting won't cripple them, (b) your opponent/ the other team is blatantly cheating (and I mean really cheating, not just being better than you), or (c) you have a real-world thing that needs immediate attention and the game will last too long.

I will admit to bending the second rule a little. Seriously, spawn-camp me one more time and I'll be in a different match before your grenades go off.

Depends on teh game, in games like COD sure, leave if you want, no-one cares anyways.
In games where teams are more important like DotA or HoN, it's not, cause you're screwing over your whole team when you leave, so you're basicly beeing an ass-hole, just cause you fail at playing and keeping your rage under controll. L2P and get some anger management.

YES SENSEI!

...*ahem.* I agree with this guy. In terms of video games, banging your head against a wall is often the only way that wall's gonna come down.

I recently looked back (with the help of my girlfriend) on my experiences playing online games, and playing games with a high difficulty. For example, Modern Warfare 2. I'm not too bad at this game, but when you get those bad days where people seem to play like a Super Saiyan in a Spartan suite, it makes me feel like a lowly grunt. and I get so angry and frustrated that I want to crush the controller in my hands and punch myself in the face until I believe I'm in a time where pong was a mythical creature.
So is it worth it? Going through a whole level to be stuck at one point, and having to go back to the check point again and again, but then completely losing my mental stability and rage quitting to then have to do the whole level that took me 9763542 hours to get to the point I got stuck at again?Run on Sentence. Very Poor. See me after class. Or is it simply worth losing a match bonus on COD?

Leave your thoughts.. :)
No, that doesn't bother me, but what does is terrible grammar, spelling, and lack of punctuation.
Just because you are on the internet doesn't mean people don't expect you to put a modicum of effort into your posts.

OT: If a game is upsetting me that much I usually just stop playing.

Sometimes, the rage quit is the best form of protest. Especially in highly competitive games that you're very adamant about and you get teamed with total fools.

On the other hand, nothing more satisfying than causing someone else to rage quit. That has to be the best feeling in gaming.

That was... catty. I've always found it interesting that you can get forum bans for attacking people directly, but you can't get one if you attack someone's grammar directly.

Not that it's bad to challenge people to speak/type properly--and without our resident grammar police, the Escapist wouldn't be the place of pleasant written discourse that it is.

But there are ways to go about it without being sarcastic, mean and condescending. Which I think is especially uncalled for when the person is doing their best to be polite and pleasant. It's probably a little but more acceptable for those angry/annoying posts where someone clearly deserves that kind of treatment. I'm not sure that's the case in this thread, though.

I've found myself turning off games when I get frustrated. Mostly because I get sick of the lectures. "It's an inanimate object, it can't hear you". Or worse, having my sister (who happened to be visiting) come in. "Stop talking to yourself! It's driving my crazy!"
