I just had to find out. If you had to choose one console, and that could be the kids ONLY console until he could afford another himself or move out, which one would you choose? It can be from any era of gaming.

I asked most of my friends, and most agreed on the old 2D games for NES or SNES because they believe this generation is spoiled by next-gen graphics.

But sadly if they get the wii they can play virtual console titles, so I'd have to unfortunately pick the wii.

Well, I'd give the kid a next gen console so they would be able to fit in with friends, and this gen has had the best games.

Also, where would I pick up NES games for a kid?

Id give my child my SNES along with Kirby's Funpak. That kept me entertained through pretty much all of my childhood that I was indoors. When S/he got older Id put them on Next gen. When your young you care less about story and graphics so what would be the point of buying a next gen console when they can have perfectly good fun playing Mario and Kirby :D

Only when they appreciate good story and stunning graphics would I get a next gen console.

I would choose NES because that's what I grew up on, but I plummed for SNES, because it's... well.. Super.

PC gamer or N64. It should be fairly easy to find games on both that will fit nicely.

I personally chose N64, partly because I grew up with it. I remember all the old games I used to play, and for ones that lacked storyline, me and my siblings would make up stories. In fact, I've got some saved on floppies my parents would loan me, but I can't access them now because no computers seem to support Floppy.

I was raised on consoles (n64 to gamecube to ps2) then became a pc gamer by choice. I don't dislike consoles (I don't know what I would do without metal gear) I just prefer using emulation to take those console games and play them on my computer. (still bought legally of course)

N64

I'd treat it like a board game, they get to play it with other people face to face. That way they get good at gaming and they learn social crap at the same time. Although Conker and Perfect Dark are off limits.

Well A.) You just made choosing a console sound like choosing a religion, which I find completely awesome. B.) I agree with you on emulators. However, like old floppies, new OSs seem to be incapable of running them. However, that could just be with Vista.

Interesting. All the next gen people are arguing that you can only make friends through game systems. I disagree personally, because I've quickly found out that someone who mods his old N64 is still just as cool as the moron who's failing classes due to the fact he spent 5 hours a day playing Halo 3.

in response to A, that wasn't my goal but still, awesome, and B, all emulators that I know of run fine on my windows 7 laptop. I have ps3 games that I can't play because I got them before a ps3 which I still haven't gotten yet. Someone should get cracking on an emulator for those of us with awesome computers and blu-ray drives.
