(I happen to like the Clash but I wouldn't exactly describe them as musically talented. Simonon couldn't even play the bass when he joined.)
Oh wow.. That would be a nerve, you just touched it.

First off Punk has nothing to do with musical complexity, it was the 'anyone can do it' that made it so popular.. Punk sacrifices musical complexity for verbal dexterity. The simplicity of the music allows for a greater range of expressions. =D

Second, The Clash are one of the more musical punk band out there. Simonon is a great bass player, it was his reggae style and overall ability that made him and the rest of the band stand out from the rest of the punk bands out there. You say you like The Clash so you would of heard London Calling, (White Man) in Hammersmith Palais and Guns of Brixton. You cant say that they are not great basslines. So he couldn't play when he joined the band, he got better.. A lot better.

Most "classic" rock musicians don't have anything interesting to say and attempt to disguise their lack of intelligence by wanking all over a guitar.
I can say

Rappers have no idea about music so all they do is talk really fast.

I'm not a fan of rap for one simple reason.
All singers can rap.
You ever hear a rapper sing?
That's why they bring in another dude/girl to do those bits.

But even while not being a fan there's still some stuff I like and I've got some albums lying around for when the mood strikes me. Gorillaz, Beastie Boys and Run DMC mainly. Also: Brainpower!

I'm a big fan of rap actually. I tend to have very diverse music tastes and I like just about anything I listen to.
Good for you! I tend to listen to only some types of music.I wish there were more diverse people in the world.

Here's one to confuse the metal heads, it's death rap, the combination of a death metal band and a rapper.

Anyway, I love hip hop. And that includes hip hop that is being made today, just because it's not there in the mainstream doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Music is like candy, you throw away the wrapper.
Anyhow seriously, I dislike almost all of it, especially 50 cent and soulja boi and the like. I'm not saying I know alot of rap, but I know only one rapper who I think is rather good and that's DEl Tha Funky Homo-Sapien, but I only know him from the Gorillaz.

Nederlander dus. :p
I must say I agree with you, except for the Beastie Boys, don't like them very much.

Edit:
Damn double-post, apologies to those who are offended.

There needs to be a choice of liking some rap music and hating other stuff. I only like a small amount of rap.

I listen to stuff that is intellegent. Songs that are not about bling and partying. Nas I know I can, or Talib Kweli's Get By etc.

If it has a strong message and has a story then I'll listen to that kind of rap.

I enjoy reading about the people who think all rap is about bitches, hoes, guns and drugs... whereas you'll find just as many rock, country, and metal songs about the same thing. I could go off on a tangent of all the non-rap songs that include references to the above, but I'm sure anyone who's ever listened to more than 10 songs would know this.

I also find it funny that some people find all rappers lacking (or most whatever) in talent. I'm not saying many rappers have no talent (like soulja boy, he likes using the dr. Suess way of rhyming) but rapping is incredibly hard. Try right now to free-style and see where it gets you. Rapping takes flow AND a good voice, no one wants to hear a nasly ass rapper, just like no one wants to hear a rock singer who can't sing in key. Not every singer can rap and not every rapper can sing, they're completely different vocal skills and incorporate different aspects. NOTE- the above is based on rappers that can rap quickly, anyone can in fact rap if they do it real slow, try quickly rapping alliterations and toungue-twisters, and that's what i'm talking about.

I think of the Fresh Prince of Bell Air opening song and I gotta say, that is a kick ass way to tell a story. But the thug stuff does get annoying. Social/political commentaries are incredible though.
