Normally,i consider getting raped slightly worse than getting murdered. Because, you know,it's pretty traumatising, and that mental trauma is for the rest of your life (if it's not rapist AND murderer, anyways). In the given situation...

...this would be sanest thing to do. If everything he has is a knife, call the police, grab nearby 2x4/lead pipe/what have you,and beat him to a bloody pulp.

I know what your going to get at, but in the context of the presented problem, I'd call the police on my cell, and have to keep to the shadows. Observe the suspect and get as much information on him to fit a description if he tries to escape when the police arrive.

If the situation gets too risky for the victim and I had no choice, I would have to act and risk engaging the assailant. Though he has a knife its 2 on 1, and he can't rape anyone unless he's in a somewhat compromised position, which can lean the odds in your favor. I don't believe in a situation that you couldn't improvise a weapon. A coat (this one might be confusing to people, I just happened to read an article in some random magazine about how a coat is a good improvised weapon in a knife fight, with illustrations on how one would neutralize the weapon by wrapping said coat around the weapon. Don't ask.), keys, whatever whatever, can be used to help defend you yourself.

I would definetly try to help. I'm not that good of a fighter, but there just has to be some rock around i could bash him with. Plus, it would give the victim valuable time to run away, and after i know the victim is safe i would make a ''tactical withdrawal''

I would say that murder is worse, but rape destroys a person; often (but not always) changing them for the worse. If I came across this situation, even if I had no weapons on me (which I usually don't), I would attempt to stop the rape by any means necessary.

Normally, rape's worse and I'd risk being killed to save the person. In this scenario, too, I would do so, simply by grabbing whatever is near me at the time and charging the attempted rapist. If I were to simply subdue them long enough for the victim to escape, that would be enough. If I ended up injuring or killing the attempted rapist, then so be it and I'd accept whatever sentence was given to me by the courts if charges were pressed, though I'd plead innocence given that I'm trying to save an innocent from rape and/or murder. That covers all the bases for my answer, I think. Basically I'd be willing to risk my own life to save someone else, if I saw something like that happening I couldn't simply walk away. Letting it happen would be worse than the actual crime itself.
So, you would rather the criminal killed them than raped them? Explain, please. I'm all ears.

This.

Rape is the worst crime you can commit in my opinion. I'd try my best to kill him.
You too.

Of course, I don't think it's murder if it's a criminal as the victim, so we're talking murder of innocents here.
you do know rape scars a person so bad they might eventually take their own life?

There is worse things on this earth then death

rape is one of em
That probability of suicide is less than 1.0, therefore murder is worse, as it has a chance of 1.0 to take someone's life.
The fact that a person dies isn't as important as how one lives. Living traumatized by rape is always bad, while death often isn't. Actually never for the person who dies.

Life and death are not a matter of numbers and quantity. I rather see 9 die and 1 live happily than 10 living a hellish life.

As much as this will rub people the wrong way, simply put: Not all life is valuable and sacred.

My problem with this poll is that I always have a weapon on hand. That said even armed I'd ignore the whole thing, I am a master of SEP after all.

Bummer of a question.

There's been some ambiguity over whether us Military Police can use deadly force to stop rape... cause it isn't always really rape...

As for the "Calling the Cops" idea, well, thats great. Always remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away... when you're lucky.

As for the guys who want to get into a knife fight, also remember, if a knife fight ends well, only one of you goes to the morgue. The other gets the ER. Knife fighting is baaaad juju.

Dunno about you, but I'd rather have bad memories than be dead, and have no memory at all.

After all, at least feeling pain is feeling SOMETHING.
Funnily enough; No, you wouldn't. You wouldn't give a damn about that, or anything else. You would be completely beyond the ability to care.

There isn't such thing as "I'd rather..." in death. You'd be perfectly fine not existing, because you could not to know that you do not.

Damn, just what I was thinking when I scrolled down. -,- But... I don't usually carry a cell phone with me... Though I make sure to keep some form of a weapon in there during nights. I have been mugged before and learned my lesson on this. :/

But in death, you cannot do anything, and you cannot not do anything, as you do not exist any longer. I don't know about you, but my existence is the only thing absolutely valued beyond all else to me.
To specify, you value your existence now. But once you stop existing you immediately stop valuing it (along with everything else, while losing the whole concept of valuing... along with everything else, like even being aware that you can no longer do anything).

Joke's on you.

You're correct that the dead person would not care about being dead because they can't do anything now. But you're acting like death only affects the victim. It does far more than that. Think of the victim's friends and family. Think of the grief they will go through when they learn of the murder.

Obviously the rape of a loved one will also leave an impact. I'm not trying to argue which is worse right now. My point is that the victim of a murder isn't the only one that suffers.

Indeed. This what I always say about murder; Aside from the possible pain the method of killing causes prior to death, the crime is never against the victim himself, but the people who cared about him/her.

The value of life comes from what yours means to others.

There's so much variety in how much suffering a murder can cause, that it's really hard to compare it in general to other major crimes. But if we look only at what it means to the immediate victim, murder pales in comparsion.

Do I look faster than him? Does he only have a knife (ie, not a gun)? Is he alone? Am I alone (ie, no family or friends to protect as well)?

If answer yes to all four, I would help without hesitation. Any No answers would change my strategy slightly to dramatically, but I would ultimately try to help.

Murder is always worse than rape. Murder is only a non-issue to those that are already dead. So trying to justify rape being worse than murder is like saying given the choice, you'd choose death over rape and while you may be a fully rational person, your lack of self-preservation is a bit unnerving.

I've been doing it since I was like twelve.

I have to agree with Max here. I keep a butterfly on my belt at all times. Failing that, I walk behind the guy, make a loud noise, and do horrid things to him with the nearest sharp object.

I voted for the first option.

If I saw that, I'd call the police, but if I saw him really getting ready to hurt her (like, about to undo his belt) I'd just say "fuck it" and plough into him while he's distracted, then do what it takes to keep him occupied until the police get there.
