Poll: Rape vs Murder, a different perspective.

There have been many threads that pose the question of whether rape is worse than murder. Mulling over this today I came to the conclusion that these threads usually have unlikely or no circumstances involved. So I began to think about the idea with more realistic circumstances.

I came up with a situation where you are walking home late one night, and hear someone in distress nearby. You look down an alleyway you just passed and see the victim at the knife point of the rapist who is undressing them with his other hand (so you know he plans to rape them). Consider yourself to be the average person, you aren't carrying weapons or anything to improvise as one, you do not know martial arts, attempting to save the person would be very risky.

In these circumstances what would you do? I have set up the polls so that you must select whether you would normally vote for murder/rape being worse, and what you would do in THIS situation. Consider your "normal" vote to be on a circumstanceless 'rape vs murder' poll.

Absolutely this.
I couldn't just stand there and let it happen, or just walk away and let it happen.
How terrible. I wouldn't wish that one anyone, and therefore would attempt to help without question.

Who ever said that rape is worse? Rape inconveniences you for a while and introduces psychological problems... murder introduces you to not being anymore. Ok, if we talk this completely insane psychos who rape, torture and hold captive a little girl for 25 years... there the line begins to blurr. But even then, the woman freed embrace life very easily afterwards.

Also: Of course i would try to safe the person. There is just one rapist with a knife. Of course i might get cut, but i would have good chances. (And i would love to be a hero). Well if there would be two or more guys... well.. maybe run in and try.. while screaming for help, and ready to run for my life.

Normally, rape's worse and I'd risk being killed to save the person. In this scenario, too, I would do so, simply by grabbing whatever is near me at the time and charging the attempted rapist. If I were to simply subdue them long enough for the victim to escape, that would be enough. If I ended up injuring or killing the attempted rapist, then so be it and I'd accept whatever sentence was given to me by the courts if charges were pressed, though I'd plead innocence given that I'm trying to save an innocent from rape and/or murder. That covers all the bases for my answer, I think. Basically I'd be willing to risk my own life to save someone else, if I saw something like that happening I couldn't simply walk away. Letting it happen would be worse than the actual crime itself.

I would just call out to him. They're not going to continue raping someone if they know I'm right there phoning the police. When they come after me, the victim can run for it, and so can I.

But I am not the average person. I am me and I would whip the rapists ass to the pavement.

But in reality being murdered is worse. Rape is bad, but being dead is worse. The only thing I can think of that is worse than being murdered is being paralyzed from the neck down for life.

As rediculous as it sounds I totally missed this while thinking through the situation. Yet this is the obvious best choice. I guess for the sake of discussion we should assume the police arent reachable at the moment (although this makes my realistic situation no longer realistic - who doesnt have a mobile phone these days?).

Rape is the worst crime you can commit in my opinion. I'd try my best to kill him.

I'm going to have to agree with this. I'm usually not the type of person to stick up for people, or myself, because as much as I'd hate to admit I am a bit of a coward, but thats something that I couldn't just let go on and I couldn't walk away from it.

I always have an SAK (Swiss Army Knife) when walking at night. NO EXCEPTIONS. (All right it's really more of a tool than a weapon, but you get the point).

That said, get out the big blade sneak up behind the dude and try to puncture a lung. If that doesn't down him, take out the jugular.

However, if I don't have my knife, (which is highly unlikely), sneak up behind the dude, get him in a neck lock and try to choke him into unconsciousness.

Being a girl, I'm probably going to put myself into a lot more danger >_> but I'd call the police, possibly let a nearby house know, maybe risk myself by trying to scare the attacker away.

Humm... why are people voting rape worse than murder?

Just ask yourself this question: Would you rather like to get bend over, by a big man and... umm, getting analy probed while he laughs at you and beats you up... or repeatedly getting stabbed in the chest and slowly lose consciousness as you drift into endless nothing, while crawling through the allys and crying because of the pain and hopelessness, knowing that you at your end and will never know anything, ever more?
