Ignoring all of the
clever massivly overdone pocahantus jokes, your point is valid, but doens't quite grasp the subtleties of teh movie, or indeed the na'vi. Put very simply, the navi didn't need the Unobtanium and so they didn't want to dig it up. Besides, the RDa wanted all of the material, not just the stuff that could be drilled out of tunnels. If a gold deposit was found under your house, would you want a mining company working in your basement, or for your neighbors to grab a pick and shovel and start digging in your basement. Besides, the Na'vi would not have fared very well in mines i think.
As for the company, no it wasn't stupid evil. It was frsutrated, kinda like a certain country recently, who wanted a certain black substance from a certain coutnry but could really reason with sadi country so eventually they devised a scenario were said country would be attacked with as little damage as possible and said material could be extracted. The RDA was just pissed off that they had been trying for years to develop relations with teh Na'vi, to get something that they could work with, but they failed. The Na'vi were as discriminatory against humans as humans were to them and that made relations a little strained. Besides, it really was Quritch running the show by the end and he was military thus why they toko such boneheaded action.
