I think Sony should get with SCE and reboot the Legend of Dragoon from PS1. I LOVE that game even today! I still have my PS1 discs and they still work. I would like to see the same game, same story, same characters, same systems(maybe better stat balancing with some items) but make the graphics worthy of this generation of games.
LoD as a PSOne Classic was a best seller for 3 months straight on PSN and was top 5 for 5 months! It sold over a Million PS1 copies back in the old days when it came out. I've played and beaten FF7, FF8, and FF9, and the systems, challenge, and storytelling in LoD surpassed them all. (Yes i know I'm gonna get flamed, but really folks, without the nostalgia value, FF7 was not god's gift to gaming. Neither is LOD, I just liked it better.)
It could sell Millions of copies easily! the story was wonderful, well paced, and executed well. The addition system let you chose what combos you wanted to use and challenged you to master them all, It was hard but addicting, like playing Minecraft on Hardcore mode. The cinematics quality then was off the charts for the time, and with these days it could be so much more! I see comments about LoD on Playstation.com posts about new FF games(I want XV really bad.)
The dragoon transformations were epic, it was that moment of "That's it, your going down!" it was your greatest power and it really shined in boss fights. The soundtrack was inspiring! I still play Dart's theme on my gaming playlist all the time! "If you still believe" from the OST was one of the most beautiful songs i've heard in a game and captures the essence of LoD very well.
What do you think? vote in the poll and comment below!

Somehow I knew this thread would be about Legend of Dragoon...

I think a lot would get lost in the translation to "modern" standards, because it's highly unlikely they would stop at just updating the graphics and PS1 JRPGs are rather notorious for having hilarious mistranslations. I don't believe every game needs voice acting, but it would probably be sought and that alone would cost a rather hefty sum, possibly at the expense of other sections of the game.

I could go for another game in the franchise, especially using a rebalanced version of the same combat system, but a full-on remake probably wouldn't do justice to the original, which I imagine is also why Final Fantasy VII has never gotten one despite all of the clamoring from the fans (myself included).

How is Legend of Dragoon, honestly? I'm a huge fan of JRPGs, but I remember reading an article from 1up.com not too long ago that said this:

Looking back on the game, many still see it as a PlayStation classic, but we attribute this to the most rose-tinted of glasses. [The Legend of Dragoon] cribbed quite a bit from Final Fantasy VII, but was released nearly three years after Square's monumental classic. Dragoon's visuals were a bit muddy at the time, and now seem nothing short of archaic. Hefty loading times and the strange tempo of the battle system combined deliver a product with painfully uneven pacing. In short, according to Bob Mackey, "No one should like it."

It kind of steered me away from it, and made it sound like a Final Fantasy clone. Was this guy talking out of his ass?

Oh. Legend of Dragoon. Damn. I hoping this was a Vagrant Story thread. Well, I guess you could consider Final Fantasy XII as a sequel of sorts. Relatively same world. But yeah, sure why not. Maybe I'll actually like Dragoon if they make another one.

In my opinion it would be above FF7 for the simple fact that you get to participate in the battles more with the addition system.

Honestly, that and the dragoon transformations were the highlight of the game.
It also had the big worlds with tons of hidden stuff, but that was par for the JRPG course back then.
The story was 'eh'. I don't remember any of it.

I do remember Darts Madness Hero addition though, cause it was fun as hell once you got the timing down.
Also you had possibly the strangest character in Rose. Watch some of her dragoon battle animations.
Yikes.

It definetely was a clone but it was a really good one. It added interesting things into the formula that worked, the story was meh for sure, all I remember was how I kept finding spelling errors haha.

The problem with the game was that there were not enough additions, I maxed them all at the end of disc 2 and you still had like 20 hrs of shit to do.

Gust of w-wind dance! Classic.

Comment and say, I would love a graphic update of this game for some reason.

it would be neat, but the game didn't exactly light the world on fire when it was first released and isn't remembered as a timeless classic either.

Funny enough, I could turn that argument around on VII. Dart as a character is far more memorable than Cloud for the main fact that Dart isn't a emo ponce. The battle system I think isn't robust as VII but I found the addition system far more fun than the materia system. The story suffers from sterotypes and cliches(it is 2013 now though) but it is no worse off than most games made in that time. That counts for the graphics as well.

If I was to play either VII or LOD, I would take LOD in a nano-second, there is no second guessing.

Cloud was emo in FF7? Since when? I don't remember him going all black hair with only one side long over his eye, and cutting himself with razors.

I love Legend of Dragoon. It's one of my all time favorite games. What's weird though is that what I remember most is the hilariously terrible voice acting during cutscenes.

His dress was more 90s grunge with a dash of punk (referring to the metal bits in random places).

Anyway, I believe they were referring to his emotional state. From what I remember, rather than having any sort of resolve every time something went wrong he just became more and more isolated and willing to go to the "dark side." He didn't even try to rise to challenges, he just let them knock him down. Again, this is just what I remember though. Haven't played the game in years, and I'm not sure if I finished it the first time. All I remember is he had lots of charismatic friends who had resolve and didn't let challenges get them down...and then there was Cloud, who almost leaped at the opportunity to let something bad drag him down.
