So it's getting closer to that time, and the fact that EA still look like their going to go ahead with their DRM plans is a great shame. I don't by any means want to get into an arguement about DRM, and if that's what you want to talk about, please, make your own thread; I am just genuinely curious as to how many of you will be buying the game if it does indeed come packaged with SecuROM.

I have long been an advocate of anti-piracy, but I myself feel that current DRM measures are starting to go too far (once again, I'm not inviting discussion, this is only my opinion), so chances are that I will pirate the game. However, I will probably purchase it anyway, just to own a copy(I mean, come on, how awesome does the Premier Edition look).

So, yes, I'd just like to see what the plans of other people are. (If you'd like an option adding, please let me know. I don't imagine my list will be complete to everyone's tastes. And option 8 is just for people who have no input, but appreciate comedy Communism.)

And as is customary, I wouldn't be suprised if this topic has been posted before, but I couldn't find it; so if I am adding clutter, I apologize now and do not need it pointing out.

I did buy Spore before, but after seeing the bad treatment of the customer by them, and after seeing the vaguely insulting responses to customer concerned about DRM, I don't think I'll buy another EA product with DRM.

I would avoid DRM altogether, but I'm not even sure which games have hidden DRM.

Regardless, I think Red Alert 3 won't be that great, really - judging from the new Russian Tanya who's actress is judge eye candy and doesn't even remotely look like she fits the role, and the bad "Kane's Wrath" expansion, I don't think Red Alert 3 will have the balance of poking fun AND plot that 2 had.

Edit:-

Its like spore, I was more than prepared to go out and pay for a copy, I even had spore pre ordered but then found out about the DRM. I can tollerate most forms of copy protection, but one that results in me "renting" a game at retail price is taking it a step too far.
The sad thing is that they will blame the loss fo sales on piracy and gloss over the fact that the majority of people simply avoided it due to the DRM or pirated it purely because of the DRM.
Very true, EA will most likely lie or half-truth and say piracy - they won't add that the bulk of pirating customers were trying to a finger up at EA for this totalihian policy and awful DRM virus, as well as the fact that EA maintain we are just renting a copy off of them, it seems.

What, i'm the ONLY one who likes soviet themed parties!?

DRM is shit, and I don't have money. My PC is crappy anyway so it's a non issue for me, couldn't even play it.

Well, seems like I wasn't alone in my ignorant purchase of Spore. I suppose I should've done my research, or had my ear pressed a little more firmly to the press/community, but I bought Spore and had it installed a while before I even realised there was any DRM. Rather silly of me really.

And I know I'm de-railing my own thread here, but once I've uninstalled Spore, is there anything else that I have to (or can) do to get rid of SecuROM from my system?

I'll be applying my policy of not buying software that includes invasive, malicious or unhelpful extras hidden in the asking price. Not buying the game, not playing the game, on strength of previous efforts will not be missing a great deal.

Ironically, I think Steam has been very good for pc gaming, despite being thinly disguised DRM, maybe because it does something more useful than buggering up my computer...

I agree with you on that, I think steam is awesome! Although it does take up a bit of your RAM, its quite a convienient way to buy and patch the games. Although the latest patch does not let the steam account be turned on in two computers simultaneously, it still is one of the best implemented pieces of anti piracy. It also lets you install the games unlimited times

I was initially going to buy the game (and probably crack it for convenience), but I'm not going to now, at least not for a long time. However, it has much more to do with how completely fucked-up they've made everything than it does DRM, as I've already got plenty of SecuROM and TAGES on my machine. I'm sorry, I just can't stomach megazords and samurai robot Jedi... not to mention the fact that they've basically turned the story into a really, really bad softcore porno. Seriously, all the female characters in the game are models, and the standard-issue Russian uniform seems to be a latex catsuit. Excellent job there, marketing, you've just repulsed me and given yet another bad example of women in gaming for the media and scholars to chew into. The game itself will probably be good, but there's too much coming out right now (Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 are both on pre-order), and I don't know if I can handle the excessive stupidity in Red Alert 3 along with the price the game demands.

From what I understand, all you can do is uninstall windows, which is what has everyone pissed.
Try doing a system scan using HiJackThis (HJT to those who are more tech-savvy) and have the log file read by an expert. There are a lot of message boards out there that offer this kind of help (like the fine folks at theeldergeek.com)

I also have the same case as TsunamiWombat. Even if I did have the game, I don't have the rig to play it in.

I'm buying the game, because I love the C&C series. But EA have really let me down, if they fuck up RA3, then I'm not going to touch an EA game again.

I'm a rather large fan of the RA and by extension C&C series, but I have no love for EA or DRM. The evil that is known as SecuRom is what stopped me from getting Spore and is what will keep me from getting RA3, besides the fact that as being EA they will probably mess up and turn this game into bollocks.

I'm not buying due to the fact that all untis are amphipious. This ruins all the fun of the naval units.

Red Alert has been I think my favorite RTS series of all time. That being said, I really don't want to support DRM.

So I'm going to pirate it until I can get a non-DRM copy (maybe steam)?
