When I first heard of red dead redemption i thought "grand theft horse... cool"

so i wasnt really sold on the off, then i heard all these cool stories and awesome stories and fun sandboxing, the more i heard the more i wanted to buy it, so.. i caved, bought it, played the first chapter, traded it in

totally thought it was bad, Red Dead Un-redeemable at this point, it feels like wow without anyone in it, a vast empty linear series of quest lines with the same repeatables every 20 yards

some one want to save this game for me... or am i right, is it bad can i move on with my life?

I thought the game was great. Sure the gunplay was shitty, but the narrative, character development, and setting was amazing. I felt incredibly immersed in the wild west, and enjoyed it immensely.

It was great, it took GTA IV mechanics and made the setting more interesting, only issue I found were graphical bugs which didn't mess anything up.

I enjoyed it so much. With the addition of co-op, there is so much to do! I learnt how to play poker with the game too, and spent hours playing it I must admit.

Well for me the most fun sandbox was prototype, fast, fluid, easy to get around fun combat but it was only playable for a few hours at a time

not really a massive gta fan as such, kinda thought it died after vice city, i didnt give red dea enough of a chance, but i just couldnt get into it, and to me if im being given a game thats supposed to be awesome i dont want to play 10 hours before it gets rolling

i recently played to the third disk of ff13 so my patience with " give a game time" is somewhat..... depleted.... entirely -_-

like i said influenced and heard of stories, and thats what the game is, when that parallel was drawn for me it became impossible to see anything else

not taking credit for yahtzee's work

I got to Mexico before trading in my copy. I didn't really like the controls very much and thought it was weird how everybody was waxing philosophical despite the time and setting. Not that I think of every south-westerner from the 19th Century as brain-dead, violent and, incapable of complex thought. I also didn't see any point to any of the mini-games. Once again, the controls made the more involved mini-games extremely difficult. The card games were a waste of time. I didn't see much point in skinning animals either other than the pleasure of leaving a skinless corpse on the road since I ended up not spending money very often at all.

It wasn't a bad game. It just wasn't a game that I wanted, anticipated or ultimately cared about.

I found it to be just as dull as GTA4, only more dull (if it were possible) with the open, samey environments of desert nothingness with having nought but the endless droning noise of CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP everywhere from the horse, and having to stare at said horse's arse. Talk about dull. I didn't care much for Marsten and only the more colourful characters like Dickenson really shone in the game. I liked the law system of the AI not instantly knowing where you are and following you endlessly until you either get arrested or get killed, although it's pointless killing witnesses when another witness many miles away inevitably hears it and tells the law anyway. And for the love of god, turn auto-aiming off. That makes the game much more enjoyable.

Opposite for me. A poker battle against one guy in Armadillo ruined the fun with that minigame. Took me almost half an hour to beat the fucker. Nevertheless I totally love Liar's Dice.

OT: the minigames are mostly fun, the story narrative and development is absolutely great and the aim-help can be turned off, if you like it harder.
I'd definitely buy it again, far better than I initially expected and the ending came as a total surprise.
... or would have come, if I hadn't accidentially read the major plot twist before. Curses!

I had a really good time playing it. Unfortunately I only played it for about 4 hours and then got bored and traded it in for Left 4 Dead 1 & 2.
Decent game, great concept, average execution.

I thought it deserved all the hype it got, I really enjoyed that game.

Are you honestly trying to say that Yahtzee was the first person to call it grand theft horse?

I enjoyed it quite a lot, but I'm willing to concede that it's something of an acquired taste. RDR is plagued by the same crucial flaws that have dogged the Grand Theft Auto series since III; sluggish, herky-jerky controls, sloppy combat mechanics and mission structures that consist of very little more than "go here, kill these guys".

That said, I find it to be an absolutely gorgeous game (especially when you get to Mexico), and while there is a lot of travel through open stretches of land, I thought it was exactly the opposite of barren. RDR's world is one of the most active I've ever seen in gaming. Apart from random encounters with escaping convicts, horse thieves, fellow travelers and other folk, the range of wildlife you can run into is just staggering. Snakes, cougars, coyotes, wolves, armadillos, skunks, even some bears... It's really quite impressive. The first time I played the game, I got distracted for hours, just killing and skinning any animal I could lay hands on.

So yeah, I don't think you're wrong in trading it in. As I said, it's an acquired taste. You'll either love it or you'll hate it, and if you played through the first chapter and hated it, you're justified in trading it in, because the rest of the game is basically just more of the same.

Yeah, It's a free download which was recently released.
No, not splitscreen, but online.
Oh, online's a bit of a shame. Fully understandable, but a shame none the less.

Still, that's a pretty damn cool add on, and the fact that its free and was released after, wow.
