Gotta ask why a gay person would be working for a church that's against homosexuality. Even if Churches arn't allowed to discriminate I'm sure it would be "well call you" "we still have interviews" or "we already filled the position" at least that's how I would run it.

As long as religious discrimination doesn't occur in government institutions, then religious groups are completely within their rights to deny certain people access to their facilities, churches, etc. I am all for equality, and I personally think that discriminating against anybody based on sexual orientation, gender, race, etc. is ridiculous - we're all people, after all. But if a religious institution has a law against a certain kind of lifestyle, then so be it. I don't understand why that person would even want to be affiliated with a religious institution that is against who they are as a person.

Churches are private organizations and should be allowed to refuse anyone entrance to said establishment. I don't like discrimination, but people should be allowed to practice what they believe in private with out disruption to their beliefs. All with in reason of course.

"It is good to see the Victorian government respecting those concerns and the basic right to religious freedom in this state."

This is why religious people need a reality check. That's fucking sick of them to say. It's not a 'right to religious freedom' to discriminate against someone who is different. Fucking pigs.

Just to spell it out; this is not about churches being allowed to deny membership to gays or single mothers.

This is about Religious businesses being legally allowed to not give a job to a person because they're gay or a single-parent.

Yeah, this is kinda like arguing to make employers let 10 year olds work at their companies, even if they were allowed to, none of them would -want- to.

cant really tell someone "your not allowed to think that way"

I say no, especially when it comes to Christianity. One of the core principles of Christianity (that some groups throw out the window or altogether ignore) is tolerance. Jesus taught his followers to love your enemy, and to be tolerant of everyone. The way some Christian groups go against this basic principle of their own religion angers me.

I believe Bill Maher said it best: Religion must die so humanity can live. Personally, I'm sick to death of trolls using bits and pieces of scripture to justify their own disgusting behaviours. People who abuse the Bible and Christianity to persecute anyone are no different than the people who abuse the Qoran and Islam to persecute anyone.

And this is why some people need to stop making sweeping remarks about the majority of human life.
How many people have died because of religion? How many people live terrible, terrible lives? How much sense does religion make?

If you want to believe in your God, I support you. Believe in your God and act for yourself however your religion dictates.
The second you try and affect another person with it, you are crossing the line and need to step the fuck back and re-evaluate what you are doing.

That was totally a non-biased assesment of religion. /sarcasm

Maybe you need to take your own advice. You seem to be perfectly fine telling him that he's wrong and needs to evaluate his life, because, lets face it, thats the message I got from that.

How many people have died because of non-religious reasons (a shit load more than religious reasons). How many non-religious people live terrible, terible lives? How much sense doesn't religion make? (okay the last question was stupid, and I don't quite understand how your second question relates to religion)

Also, I think the point of the thread is discussing whether or not religious organizations have the right to discriminate against people within their own institutions. Which they do.

What does this have to do with anything? OPs news was saying that religious institutions are or arn't allowed to discriminate in certain situations. There is no enemy here. Tolerance has nothing to do with whats going on.

No one is forced to send their children to a faith based school. Its an option the parents chose. They make these choices spesificly so they can be taught in a faith based enviroment. At the end of the day you need somone who partakes in that faith in order to teach the values taught by the religious institution.

If you are gay, there is no reason why you should be hired by a FAITH based institution that does not share the same values, as you cannot teach them.

This isn't about discrimination but about who can teach morals and values of a faith better. A practitioner, or somone who isn't.

everyone is thinking that religion is Public. Its not.

As such why would you be require to hire somone to teach religious values and morals who does not subscribe to them?
