I restarted Final Fantasy XIII about 1 month after I'd finished it before because I enjoyed the story so much and its a a nice game to sit and xp grind for relaxation. Other then that, it depends on the game. If its got a morality/choice system, I normally play through again making the opposite choices so I can see whats different and I restarted inFamous fairly soon after completing to see whether I could 100% it (gave up once I hit Island 3).

A truly great game is worth playing again. I just played through Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time again, because it is a truly great experience. Another good reason is to play it with a friend who hasn't yet. I've played through the Halo trilogy with friends their first time through, and I love introducing someone to such an epic sci-fi tale.

Some experiences are worth experiencing twice. Video games being the artistic awesomeness that they are, they are no exception.

I've had this same discussion with my brother about books. I would read my favorite books over and over and over again; he simply could not understand why, because as far as he was concerned, you read a book once, and then you never read it again because you already know what happens. And I would always retort with "That's not the POINT" and we'd go back and forth like this forever. XD

Same with games. There are some games that I love so much that I can play them a million times and never get sick of them. There's a satisfaction in knowing a game world like the back of your hand. However, that's also something I kind of fear; I don't like the idea of knowing a game so well that it becomes routine. When you stop having fun with a game, it stops being a game.

Buuuut that doesn't really prevent me from playing my favorite games over and over again anyway. ;) Replay value is a huge deal for me; I love game worlds that are huge and sprawling with lots of side quests, because I never find everything on the first time through, so that pretty much guarantees replay value. I'm currently going through the Shadow Hearts series again with a fine-tooth comb to discover all the things I missed. :3

I usually let a good chunk of time pass between playthroughs, though with some games (God Hand, Drakengard, Okami, The World Ends With You, etc.) I will at least start up a new game immediately after finishing just to play around with what I unlocked. Very rarely do these new games actually lead to a full playthrough.

I played through Super Mario World at least 10 times. I can't really play those intensely story-driven games more than once. After the first go, I'm usually through. The only RPGs that I've replaid to waste were Super Mario RPG and Tales Of Symphonia. I beat SMRPG 5 or 6 times over 13ish years and ToS 3 or 4 times, since I beat it alone and with random assortments of people.

I love to replay a good game, some games never gets old to play.
Final Fantasy IX gets replay about two times a year and Fallout 3 I often make an other character. In fact I never buy a game unless I think that I would like to play it multiple times
The same is true for books my favourite books have more than 50+ reads.

I played Mafia twice through because I thought the story was amazing, and had a lot of fun playing it. I played the Age of Empires 2 campaigns many times as well. If I enjoy a game enough I'll play through it again. Or if I have missed something, or I want to chose a different option than the one before, then that is a good enough reason for me.

Yes, as I said earlier in the thread. Sands of time is one of those few games I can replay. I think I've been through that game a good 4-5 times now since 2003.
My old roommate is eaqually in love with this game, and we've even had a Sands of time speed playthrough contest at a LAN :p.

Sadly he won with about 30 minutes. No idea how I got behind! >:

i do. all the times. I rewatch movies and reread books too, because i dont remember everything the first time, and because if it's any good, it will draw you in, even if you know whats going to happen.

Now a days, I virtually never replay games. (although I do play Civ 4 and other instance type games that don't have a 'ending').

I do think replaying depends ALOT on how much time you have. When I was a kid with plenty of time, I replayed Final Fantasy, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario bros (world?) and several others. By high school, I don't think I replayed any games. Just played Subspace or other online game.

What is your record? My fastest playthrough has a save file of just before the last boss (you know, the last save of the game) at exactly 4:30.

This poll does not have enough options. Where's the option for "Sure, if the game was so good the first time I'm not over it by the end." I used to replay games a bit more, but as I get older it feels more and more like replaying games is a waste of time. That said occasionally I will replay a really good game sometimes immediately after beating it while I'm still into it, but rarely get thru a full 2nd playthru.

Amusingly the games with the longest replay value to me are the most repetitive, ie fighting games and racing games. You're essentially doing the same thing over and over and over and over, but seeing how much better you can do it than last time.

the space of "instantly" and "after a few years" is a bit dramatic

It depends on what sort of game it is, and if I think it was gripping enough to replay

Get more achevements

See other ways the plot can go (in some RPGs)

Cause the gameplay itself is fun

Possibly. I do get bored of stuff fairly quickly. I generally cant play an MMO for more than 2 months at a time either before it gets too dull. I can often come back to it later for anotehr 2 months though.

Okay, that's more understandable. I figure you've just never found a game that keeps you entertained long enough.
I have, but they're all multiplayer. I can spend a lot of hours playing the same game multiplayer because it is never the exact same experience.
Yeah, I often find myself bored of MMOs as well, and for the most part multiplayer seems to be PvP which I loathe with a passion. On an unrelated note I also enjoyed Morrowind more than Oblivion :D. Hope you find a good game that lasts longer than the end sometime.
Pvp is the spice of life!...or something.

I do enjoy me some good pvp. Probably the reason I played GW as long as I did.
I rather enjoyed Guild Wars, I might play more later. Also glad you enjoy PvP, whatever floats thy boat~

I have played Resident Evil 4, Persona 3 and Persona 4 a hell of a lot, and make a point of playing one (or all of them at least once a year). It's just because I really enjoy the game and/or I want to unlock everything, for example, have played RE4 and the side quests so often, I now have the option of getting the Chicago typewriter and infinite rocket launcher.

Often it's not just about the story it's about the awesome gameplay. When I was younger I played through Paper Mario at least 8 times in a row and I simply didn't get bored of it. As for watching movies more than once, some movies have mindblowing scenes that are simply a joy to watch, and often books are enjoyable to read. Really, it's like saying "Why would you listen to the same song again? You already know what it sounds like!"

I have to agree with OP. When I'm done with a game I'm done. Tried to platinum Eat Lead, but it was so boring going through the same story again...

Well I used to play games again and try to 100%
by giving my self goals to do. Normally in an RPG I would play the evil route to get a different ending but now with the addition to Achievements and Trophies I normally go for all of them now.
