Say you get a facebook message, text, or e-mail or whatever, and you happen to be there right when you receive it, and you're available to respond. Would you reply immediately, or would you wait a while before replying?

Personally, I usually wait a little before replying so it doesn't seem like I'm always on the computer or whatever, especially for e-mail. Immediate replies on e-mail seem weird to me. It's definitely silly to think that instant reply = weird loser, but it kinda seems like that's how a lot of people think.

I think if you're available, it would be best to reply immediately since you (by that I mean me) might forget to do it later, that being said it's not that often that I get to reply immediately, which is odd because I'm almost always on line!

To me it's not weird, but I know that others view it as if you're just constantly refreshing, waiting for any contact. It's the more updated equivalent of sitting next to the phone.

I love it when someone replies quickly. Notably @FirstToStrike. I was pleasantly surprised when his reply came within a few minutes. Fastest reply I got and although it may seem small, it really made me glad.

But replying quickly isn't really fit for all messages. When I'm discussing something with someone, I take my time. I don't reply as quickly as possible, I think about it for a bit then I reply. They don't deserve a rushed reply because they took their time to write something for me.

I hope not since I usually respond to messages the second I see them. I usually reply really fast to people so I don't find it weird :p

I'm usually a fast replying. My big flaw is reading a message, thinking about a reply but not actually writing it. It then lies forgotten with the rest of the read mail.

Considering the vast availability of smart phones and the fact that people carry these devices with them, I don't find it at all weird when people instantly message me back. You can be sitting next to your computer, or you could be out hiking, and still have to same ability to send a message.

I respond as soon as possible. I don't see why I shouldn't. I tell people they can always reach me if they need me. I would hate to be a liar.

Sorry bout the giant letters, I am at work so couldn't make my own and had to borrow! Thought it was relevant...

Also, wow, it seems nobody so far agrees! In this day and age, with the tchnology we have, its not surprising when people respond quick, so dont worry about doing it...

Nah - don't find it weird. If it's an email or skype message, I'll tend to respond when I see it, so people prolly expect me to respond fast.

If it's a text message, then most people know that I may not find it for awhile :p Me and my phone often get separated lol.

I always, always end up getting text/mail/messages as soon as I log on to something or pick up my phone. I always reply straight away otherwise I'll never reply, I probably do look like a right loser, but it's like everyone is watching me and waiting for me to be on my phone or computer.

If you have the time to reply, and want to talk to them, then why not? You'll only have to do it later otherwise.

I've left some things for days before, but others I respond to (including FB statuses etc) almost immediately, especially the important ones. It depends on the situation. Overdoing it and obsessively, instantly replying to everything someone says can turn you into a stalker.

Right now I'm dodging an email from a co-worker in another department who wants me to take a look at a broken item because I have other things I want to get done first and I can legitimately say I didn't see it until then. Does that count?

I never considered it to be weird, I always respond if I'm there when I get the message. The other person doesn't care.
