I've played themboth and love both of them but dead space is my winner, i've finished it through about 10 times and i never get bored of it, i think its a mix of storyline and gamepplay that do it for me as well as innovitave gameplay bits like zero g and the no oxygen bits when you can't hear anything properly

Hmmmm. This is a tough one. Both were huge disappointments. Both capitalized on my love for Resident Evil 4. Both tried to scare me. Both failed at scaring me. Both game suck.

If I had to choose between these two, I would choose... NEITHER. I'll just play Fallout 3 or Call of Duty 4 (I just preordered Modern Warfare 2!).

Both are good and both have their faults...

If you want a moody, atmospheric adventure you should go with Deadspace.
If you want action-packed adventure with the option of Co-Op, go with RE5.

I enjoyed both about equally, for Deadspace I disliked the "Silent Protagonist" because it made me not care about the story.

In RE5 I disliked the Multiplayer Focus, since it hurts the single player game. It also isn't quite as good as RE4, but it's definately more "exciting".

Dead Space, definitely. It actually makes a good attempt at being scary, whereas Resident Evil 5 shamelessly trades in its survival horror history in favor of zombies riding motorbikes, Sheva Alomar, and enough action to dispel any lingering scariness the game might've ended up with.

I'm glad to see the surprising support for Dead Space. RE5 disappointed me so badly and left a foul taste in my mouth. The stuck with a bad control scheme for no logical reason, turned horribly racist once the tribals started showing, and the story was offensively stupid.

Dead Space's story wasn't profoundly great either, but at least passably okay. The real key to Dead Space was puzzles that made more sense to be in your way and the overall believably scary atmosphere.

Dead Space is an entertaining action game on Easy/Medium, and a pulse pounding survival horror on Impossible (Trust me on that, enemies are friggin terrifying when they're THAT hard to kill). It's more 'jumpy' than 'scary' but it does a lot to capture the atmosphere and the bleakness of Isaac's situation, and it can freak you out a lot if you let yourself get drawn in.

Resident Evil 5 is a Resident Evil made in the past 3 years. I've not played it but based on what I've heard and capcoms more recent attempts at the series I'm not that optimistic. Co-op is a cool addition but it kind of negates the idea of a survival horror, if you ask me.

Then again I guess you could argue that Isaac's Armour does a bit to reduce the scariness of his situation...

I can't decide. Dead Space was really good, but Resident Evil 5 had decent gameplay and a lot of "so stupid it's funny" moments.

I prefer Resident Evil 5. I don't see why people think Dead Space is scary. The scariest part of that game is when the monsters chase you into the elevator. After that, nothing even made me jump.

Resident Evil 5, however, was muuuch scarier to me. I actually FELT like I was alone against hordes upon hordes of ravenous assholes trying to eat my face off. I actually felt the NEED to conserve ammo and health. The fucking bat boss was one of the hardest I've faced.
