"Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves."
-Confucius.

Revenge will consume you if you let it. You make yourself stronger by moving past somebody's actions against you, sooner or later the guilt will take care of them anyway.

I'm against revenge, but I do support self-defence (only the required amount, of course).

in my experience revenge on someone tends to result in a cycle of the two of you constantly trying to get revenge on each other for whatever happened to them last time. However, a good revenge is a good antidote to bullying and any self-confidence problems. I know the last time I was bullied a good punch to the guy's face definately helped.

As Gandhi has said, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
There's also an interesting story I know about two monks, but I'm not going to recount it here.

I'll admit, though, that I'm not able to resist taking some revenge. "To a limit," though, because I'd never do something that actually harms someone else or ruins their life. That's being rather ridiculous.

Edit: Man, someone on the first page got to that quote first. Ah well.

This feedback causes more revenge.
To end the cycle is to bring enlightenment.
Or to simply allow it to happen, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke).

Revenge just leads to an arms race. I always feel cruddy too when I do harmful things to others, even if the deserve it.

"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

That's how I feel about revenge. No, its what I know to be true from my own experiences with dealing it out. It might feel good, but eventually in pursuing such a dark cause, you may very well become the very thing that you sought to get back at. If you seek to create a world of nightmares for those who have caused you harm, although you may succeed, you are also very likely indeed to become absorbed into that world and be unable to leave it.
