Should Anonymous engage in trying to stop these mad bastards?

let me hear your thoughts.

(I am currently in london on a language course. I can hear what I suppose are them outside the window as I am typing this.)

The Riots, though unjust, wouldn't be anonymous's issue.

What would they hack? I doubt the rioters have a website. Plus its doesn't seem like Anonymous's style. They don't attack the people, they attack the head. You may argue that hacking and stealing information might be considered attacking the people, but to my knowledge they have yet to use that information against people. Just to hurt the companys numbers and causing people at the top to fear them.

Anonymous deals with things online. They don't have a physical presence, or at least they haven't in the past. Furthermore this would be an incredibly stupid thing for them to get involved in.

Yes, get the online people who antagonize and escalate events to solve a real-life situation that needs to be stopped.
That'll work.

At best I could see them helping to identify the looters, which frankly I'd see no issues with at all. Honestly I think everyone could help with that.

With some of the looters actualy stupid enough to post pics of themselves with their "loot" on places like facebook, it may not be all that hard to do in some cases.

Voted hell yes because there's not really anything anyone can do online, which means they'd have to show up at the riots in person, which would most likely end with them getting their asses kicked because the people rioting would think they're making fun of them. This would amuse me immensely.

many of you say that anonymous only operate online (wich is almost always true) however i have read in the newspaper that the riots have all been planned online aswell. thats why i thought they might be able to do something.

Even if people could no longer communicate online, people would still go... how should I put this... completely bat-shit insane.

If anything Anon would just try and make them even worse, you know like pissing on an enraged bear. Why? Because fuck you that's why, like they give a fuck for the well being of others. And I do know that they have done some deeds of justice, this is too big from them to give up to the good guys and peace.

i assume you're talking about taking out BBM? but i don't think they'd touch it. they probably could if they wanted too, but it wouldn't really do much, just make them alittle more organised.
also, lol @ organised riots.

Anonymous is already out there. They're the ones setting fire to everything.

Ah, fair enough. Well, just for the symbolism I would love to see a few hundred Guy Fawkes masks storm the streets.

So your own amusement is more important than the well being and health of others? What a pleasant person you must be.
Me and about 75% of the population, yes.

What the hell is Anonymous supposed to do about a riot? You can't DDoS a riot.
True.

But you can DDOS Twitter and Facebook xD

They are using the social network sites to organise their small group of friends and contacting others when some shit hits a fan and everyone needs to evacuate the area as the cops are arriving in force.

Once that is down then they only have their mobiles... and hopefully their credit will run out eventually xD

Ok, I think we have a pretty solid answer by now (which at the end of the day was what I was looking for):

"It would be really cool if Anonymous saved London, But realisticly it is not a good idea."
