So I've been reading a lot of posts about Modern Warfare 2. What I've taken from the argument so far is that many MW fans are pleased (with far fewer rabid fans than there were for MW1 it seems...jaded customers perhaps? Wait! I had an actual question!) The PC crowd seems to be the largest group of ticked off people. I was wondering how PC gamers feel about the apparent focus IW paid to the console version of the game rather than the PC version. I further ask whether or not PC gamers see a rising trend of PC versions of games getting the shaft it terms of features, vs their console counterparts? Will there always be a PC market for mainstream, blockbuster games, even though high end PCs required to play such games with full features cost quite a bit more than a new XBox or PS3?

Flame shields activate! Its gonna be a bumpy ride!

Just the fact that there is no answer that could possibly not be a bit hateful towards console gamers is not a good start for a poll.

There will always be a market for PC games. Simple as.

And now for something completely different, a link to Scrubs quotes! [http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Scrubs]

[sup]Also, edit poll to be a bit less, ya know, flameish.[/sup]

There'll always be a market for PC games. Seeing as they're requried to design anything and everything, thus most games are made for PC anyway.

Oh, I'm a Console Gamer, by the way. I just accept that the PC develops our shit.

Maybe you should make the choices less biased against console owners. Because I can't take you seriously while you are holding all that gasoline and matches.

I don't doubt PC gaming will always be a market. Mostly dominated by Steam.
However attention does seem to have moved towards consoles for the simple matter that console gaming is more popular. That is to say, more homes have Nintendo Wii's than gaming computers. Simple economics.

If by console you mean the Wii and the DS, then yes, they are the future. Why? Because they're profitable even if you only buy the 2 must-have games (Wii Play and Wii Fit).

Expect Microsoft's and Sony's next offering to depend on a lower attach rate and thus have less incremental processing power, as publishers realize it doesn't make sense to pay for 10 AAA games when they can make 5 sequels with little impact on sales.

Expect the PC market to be increasingly centered around cut-price deals on Steam and incremental payments for MMOs, as the amount of gaming PCs declines further and the quality of console ports stays static.

The Next Big Thing will be a killer social app on Facebook, with a smartphone version and a way to monetize increased play. Like Eliminate Pro, except you don't need a PhD in Tapping.

If you look at it objectively, the console is rising.

Technologically speaking there has always been a gap between PC games and console games but in recent times that gap has becoming noticably smaller to the point now ehere the differences are so small that you'd have to nit-pick to identify them.

PC games have always been associated with posessing higher quality and more features but recently that trend has begun to disappear with console games aquiring more of the supposedly 'PC grade' quality while PC games have shifted from being the centre of attention in the gaming media.

It's just a result of the times changing, the PC isn;t as big or impressive as it used to be in the eyes of the majority of gamers.

If the consoles are trying to rise above my PC, I'll be there to stop it with my Triple cunted vietnemese hooker side kick...

We are being shafted. And I'll let you guess where.

There are more consoles (As opposed to gaming comps) and their standards are lower, thus easier to satisfy. [elitist PC face] And frankly, all you need is a button that makes big explosions and they are happy, as opposed to us intellectuals :D [/pc elitist face]

Yeah, PC gaming is certainly in a decline. However, I don't think it'll ever simply disappear - so long as there are computers, there will be games for them.

Besides, who knows? When we FINALLY untap the potential of quantum computing, maybe it'll rise to the foreground again.

As soon as Microsoft and Sony allow me to play every game on Keyboard/Mouse then sure. Otherwise not in this lifetime.

I refuse to play RTS's on anything but PC. And I try to get every game I can on PC, unless it's been stiffed on the port, like Assassins Creed 2.

Every game is better with a mouse.

The only problem with PC's is that it generally requires you to be somewhat savvy technologically and to keep your computer up to date. In contrast to consoles where you buy one and a retarded 12 year old can(and do) use it.

I am a console gamer and I can explain that easily. It's just that consoles are more focused on gaming.
Disclaimer: I am not forcing my opinion onto other people.

A top end gaming computer more expensive than a current gen console? Sure, a PC of comparable performance and power, however, is not. Bear in mind that on release the PS3 was near $1000au and the xbox 360 (without wireless, HDMI etc), and the tech in both was already last gen (almost 2 generations behind in the case of the ps3) so it would have actually been cheaper to buy a comparable gaming PC.

That took all of 3 seconds to prove, looking at the specs that computer is far more powerful than a PS3 (which people tend to assume is the most powerful current gen console) and only $100 more (as that's Australian prices), it will easily play any current gen game on settings equal to or greater than the consoles. Bear in mind the mark up on a PS3 for sale in Australia is significantly less than the mark up for PC parts, so I'd be surprised if across the pacific you couldn't find a comparable computer far, far cheaper (same deal in europe). PC gaming is not more expensive than console gaming, that is a myth based on...well, I honestly don't know what spawned that beleif, maybe back in the days before I bought computers it was the case, it sure as all hell isn't now.

PC gaming is going nowhere, IPs like call of duty have a larger consumer base on consoles because they are more casual games (they have been changed to make them easier to get into with each sequal), but that isn't what annoys PC gamers. PCs and consoles are different, just because a system works better on consoles and/or is more likely to be accepted by console gamers does not mean that it will work on the PC platform, either release it as a PC game or not at all (I don't seem to remember PC gamers complaining about CoD3, because it didn't pretend to be a PC game).
