even though high end PCs required to play such games with full features cost quite a bit more than a new XBox or PS3?
A top end gaming computer more expensive than a current gen console? Sure, a PC of comparable performance and power, however, is not. Bear in mind that on release the PS3 was near $1000au and the xbox 360 (without wireless, HDMI etc), and the tech in both was already last gen (almost 2 generations behind in the case of the ps3) so it would have actually been
cheaper to buy a comparable gaming PC.
That took all of 3 seconds to prove, looking at the specs that computer is
far more powerful than a PS3 (which people tend to assume is the most powerful current gen console) and only $100 more (as that's Australian prices), it will easily play any current gen game on settings equal to or greater than the consoles. Bear in mind the mark up on a PS3 for sale in Australia is significantly less than the mark up for PC parts, so I'd be surprised if across the pacific you couldn't find a comparable computer far, far cheaper (same deal in europe). PC gaming is not more expensive than console gaming, that is a myth based on...well, I honestly don't know what spawned that beleif, maybe back in the days before I bought computers it was the case, it sure as all hell isn't now.
PC gaming is going nowhere, IPs like call of duty have a larger consumer base on consoles because they are more casual games (they have been changed to make them easier to get into with each sequal), but that isn't what annoys PC gamers. PCs and consoles are different, just because a system works better on consoles and/or is more likely to be accepted by console gamers does not mean that it will work on the PC platform, either release it as a PC game or not at all (I don't seem to remember PC gamers complaining about CoD3,
because it didn't pretend to be a PC game).
