Don't want to have sex, only want to make love. There's a HUGE difference between those two (at least for me).

I have to wonder if this was partially inspired by the topic on asexuality...

Anyway, I voted that I still need love. It's no contest, really -- a relationship with an actual human being vs. what amounts to computer assisted masturbation. Really, I wouldn't go for the sex-bot even in the absence of a girlfriend; too frakkin' creepy.

because I like to cuddle.
And I understand she has no emotions, but does she have that monotone voice as well?
She's as warm as you want her to be and no, she can have whatever voice you want her to have.
Can she fake emotions?
Yes, and she can have any personality you want.
You know, if you take away the part about how she can have any personality you want, and make it so she has her own personality, you start to get out of sex bot territory and into Blade Runner style replicants. After all, if the emotions are perfectly simulated, and she feels the effects of them, how can we say they aren't real? You're describing a sex-bot so realistic that it's less a question of an advanced sex-toy, and more a case of an honest to god girlfriend who happens to be an artificial life form, instead of a human being.

Edit Edit:

It's the difference between the Android Prostitutes in Tek War and Rachael from Blade Runner. It's kind of hard to say that Deckard made the wrong choice at the end of Blade Runner, but the andy-hookers from Tek War are another story.

God I don't know, there is no risk of the robot leaving you thats like the only reason im split.

A girlfriend is there for female companionship. A close friend that I am physically attracted to who has similar feelings towards me. There may or may not be sex involved. If there is sex involved, then it is a two-player activity that is as much about physical pleasure as it is about emotional and physical communication.
A sex-bot is for me to fuck. Which means the entire point of it is for me to achieve sexual pleasure at its expense through domination. In this case a robot doesn't give a shit about physically harmed (because it can't feel anything), which is why I prefer it to a prostitute.

Wait, what? Shit, I've been doing it wrong then.
Well, that was very sketchy because I can't find the correct term to describe it. But I think I've made the distinction fairly well in my comparison.

Why do the two have to be mutually exclusive?

I'd use the sex-bot instead of (or as a form of) masturbation and still try to meet and date women. If I had a partner I wouldn't dispose of the bot, likewise I wouldn't encourage her to dispose of hers if she had one. The robot has no emotions or personality, it's not cheating in fact it can prevent cheating. She's not in the mood, I use the bot, I'm out of town, she uses the bot etc.

I mean people fantasize about who they're having sex with so how is this any different?

If she wants to screw what looks and sounds like the old spice guy, more power to her. In fact it's an effective form of contraception as having sex side by side with our respective robots. Okay so she might need an open mind, but these bots are no different to other masturbation aids.

I take one. Not to say that I wouldn't still want to find a girl to have romantic relationship with, but when I'm single it sure would help making my sexual urges more fun to relieve. Although if it was an AI rather than just some machine, then I'd probably treat it like a person. In which case there would be an actual relationship rather than just using it as some sex toy, and things would get very complicated.

But yes I would take a sex-bot but still be interested in women.

Listen, it's a fucking post on a gaming website, not the Nobel Committee. I'm basically putting out the question of sex or sex and love. This is something I was curious about, and I'm just trying to gauge this site's feelings on the subject.
Also, your comment if just insulting to hookers. Hookers have feelings too, that's why I'm not comparing hookers to girlfriends.

But everything's programming, just simulated emotions. It doesn't feel the effects of its simulated emotions. It's not an artificial life form, it's just a very advanced fuck toy. It only does what you want it to. Everything is made to make you comfortable with the experience. I'm not trying to get into the previous conscious android vs. real woman thread.

Oh, okay. In that case, my pre-edit post stands; not only would I prefer the girlfriend if I had the option, but I'd just go without if I didn't. The sexbot is just too squicky.

Not male here, but if I had a robot sex toy, it doesn't mean I can't also be in a relationship. I wouldn't give up on real humans, but it doesn't mean I can't also use the robot. Although to be honest, I have a problem with the whole uncanny valley thing, and I'd be quite uncomfortable with a robot that resembled a human.

I know. I'm NOT trashing you for it, just explaining my opinion on why the question didn't make too much sense.
I did not compare hookers to girlfriends. I compared hookers to sex-bots, which I don't think is offensive because it's a pretty fair comparison. In fact, my entire point of bringing up hookers was to illustrate that I'd rather hurt the feelings of a robot than that of another human.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot the word "NOT". Which is a hilarious mistake on my part because it's the most important word in the entire post.

Yeah, same here. If it ended up being able to develop an actual intelligence and actual emotions or feelings, I wouldn't treat her (as it would become a person at that point) any differently than an actual person. I would, however, hope that she wouldn't be as easily upset by my own personal flaws and leave me (there is where it becomes tricky, especially if I purchased her and she is my property. Does that make it slavery?).

Well I still need love and some kind of emotion attachment, so I'll stay with my girlfriend. As for kinky sex, I get plenty of that from her, she's as kinky as I am. :D

Um, no. Free will is were its at. The robot does not love me back. It is a machine, programmed to do whatever I want. It is not "real" love, at least in my eyes.

Of course I would still "bother with women", I need someone with feelings, not some weird sex-bot. Not to mention I don't care about sex at all anyway.
