Well maybe it should be because a lot of people agree that GH3.
I think you're missing 2 '.'s, because when you trail off like that, an ellipsis...

More seriously, I don't know what you just said.

Guitar hero. I dont like the idea of paying however much RB will be in the UK when it finally decides to come out, then paying MORE to get some decent songs because the default setlist is crappy, maybe one or 2 songs on it that i would ever want to play. GH has more fun songs, and is cheaper. however i am still not getting GH:A unless they have some REALLY good charts or songs on it, or is at least cheaper

any idea on when rock band actually "dares to show its face round here?", in the UK?

Guitar hero 3. You get as much fun/a lot more fun for a lot less money. I'll only buy rock band if there's a price cut.

wow just read through this game and its almost like witnessing a format war with the strong beliefs and defensiveness over 'the best game'. Can't really comment on which one is better as rock band STILL isnt out in the uk but i found guitar hero really good fun to play through and there were very few songs i didnt like. Maybe i was fortunate not to hit this wall at tier 7 on expert but i just played through the expert career saving star power for any difficult solo and just mashed buttons so i didnt die and by the end of the career i could pass any song first time like that with the only exceptions being cult of personality which took me a few goes and raining blood...which i still cant do :| so if that helps anyone w00t i guess oh and for person 2 above me i think rock band is out may 23rd in uk

I've recently purchased both of them and I find that I vastly prefer Rock Band for the following reasons:

-Better, more realistic note charting. They don't seem to add four notes for every one in the original song.

-Better (IMO) song selections. I really like their selections of songs, as it makes it more accessible and the songs really add a variety to the type of playstyles.

-Tighter note window. You have to be more accurate with hitting the notes than in GHIII, which means for a lot of songs they don't have to throw in extra notes.

-Much better aesthetics. Cleaner and more professional looking. Especially when you add character customization and see all the different animations your characters have during the song.

-Better gameplay mechanics. Energy phrases you can hit while in overdrive, Solo sections on guitar, drum fills for activating OD, ability to save your band mates and big rock endings all add to the diversity of the gameplay.

-DLC. The amount and quality of the downloadable songs is just phenomenal. And the integration of the DLC into the Band World Tour and Solo Tours.

-Band World Tour. It's fun.

I could probably name a few more reasons, but that's the gist of it. And to whoever said that bass on Rock Band is just a watered-down version of guitar: The charting tries to be accurate to what the actual bass part is in the song. Play some of the higher tier songs on Expert Bass, like Green Grass and High Tides, Won't Get Fooled Again (I think), or Highway Star. They are challenging and doesn't reflect what the guitarist is doing.

Anyway, I passionately love Rock Band. Really, the only reason I went and got GHIII is for an extra guitar to use on Rock Band and a few extra songs to play if I ever got in the mood.

Clearly Rock Band was the next evolutionary step in this particular genre of games, so I'd have to give the nod to it. Unless Guitar Hero innovates some features into their releases they're going to become nothing more than the same gameplay with different songlists slapped onto it.
Yup, that's pretty much what's gonna happen. Activision announced that drum peripherals and a microphone will be shipping with the next Guitar Hero game - http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=134009

But Rock Band will be better. When it eventually arrives in Britain with that staggering price.

In before "GH4 copied RB" claims.RB copied Guitar Hero in first place(yes I know it's made by the same dev) so don't make a big deal out of it.

Rock Band. I would have chosen different songs to put in, but I think the songs are "pop-ier" in the interest of having songs that nearly everyone can know and enjoy. Still some good songs though.

Wasn't planning on it. I think that Rock Band, since it's made by Harmonix will probably be better since Guitar Hero 3 didn't have the same feel as the other two. Neversoft couldn't quite emulate the feeling of playing songs as well as the other games in the series by Harmonix, so I assume that Rock Band's going to be better.

I love Rock Band. Everything about is better except the song list. I detest pop songs. If RB had a better song list, I would praise it as the second coming.

If you were designing a game like Rock Band, would you pick songs that were well-recieved and popular or songs that are random and generally obscure? For example, if I had to pick a song from RHCP's Stadium Arcadium album, it wouldn't be Dani California, but She Looks to Me. That's my favorite song on the album, but I don't think anyone else would know it. Certainly not the average RB buyer. And like I said before, I think they engineered the songs to appeal to everyone who picks up an RB controller.

So I'm not really sure what people are expecting from RB if not pop(popular) music. Feel free to discuss/flame, of course. :p

Guitar hero.

Songs have more gameplay, Rock band songs are the popier, simpler songs the bands have put out.

Examples :

tom sawyer
Epic
the hand that feeds
Paranoid

After that, most of the other songs are pop songs anyway (maps, learn to fly, in bloom (partially) ,reptillia, here it goes again, creep). Yes, these are pop-rock songs, but they are still pop songs.

There are very few songs that I would rate as "awesome" songs to play, That come with the disc. Enter sandman, and run to the hills.

I am not going to buy a £90 - £70 product (assuming I only buy the disc and the drums, since I have the guitar, and I am not going to pay £40 to sing. I can do that with the song and a lyric sheet, which is free) so I can play 2 songs.

the downloadables are good, but even then, they aren't the right songs by the band. They released a judas priest album, but Painkiller would have been the only one I'd want. (I'm a masochist that way). I'd get sweet leaf, working man, march of the pigs, greatful dead pack, beetoven C#, and supernaught.

That's still 16 songs, and 14 of them, I have to pay extra.

There's also very little variety, or interesting songs. It's always the same riff. It's like a job.

Guitar hero 3 had a lot more variety (from rain blood to sunshine of your love and black magic woman) and previous titles had other really good and varied pieces in them (jessica, primus)
Paranoid isn't a "poppy" song. It's pretty dark. "I tell you to end your life." And besides, Iron Man and War Pigs were already used in previous Guitar Heroes. Reptilia is used in Guitar Hero III. Also, a lot of songs in Guitar Hero III use "the same riff." The Sunshine of Your Love that you mentioned is mostly one riff throughout the entire song. When You Were Young, Anarchy in the U.K., and My Name is Jonas all use "the same riff." And Raining Blood is a song I don't want to play, only due to the difficulty.

Prefer the span of genres (rock genres i guess) that Guitar Hero III put into it's song list, over Rock Band's set of mostly alternative rock... But i voted for Rock Band anyway simply because no matter the circumstances (large amounts of alcohol included) its always fun. And plus, I'm a drummer, so the fact that I could be a drum hero for once won me over first thing. So for those of you who enjoy 2 word answers: Rock Band

Agreed, Paranoid isn't a poppy song. Being well-known doesn't make a song Pop in my book (although I know Pop stands for popular). Anyway... it's not "I tell you to end your life", it's "I tell you to enjoy life" ;)
About playing the same riff over and over again:
One could say that's only realistic ;) Learn the power chord and you can play 99% of all punk songs out there, about 50% of rock songs and so on... I know that's an exaggeration, I've played guitar for roughly 13 years, but except for the solos most songs that were popular simply aren't that complicated. I've found the notes in Rock Band to be more enjoyable, just because I think they are far more reasonable. GH3 goes over the top on some songs, making some parts harder than they would be in real life.

About the song lists:
Phew, I thought I was a little "extreme" in my tastes, but some of you guys are just plain hilarious. Complaining that a video game uses popular songs is like saying that they shouldn't try to sell the game to so many people. It's the nature of the thing. Also, being popular is not a sufficient reason for a song to be bad. Guitar Hero focuses mostly on songs that are "fun"/complicated on the guitar, because they don't have to give a damn about the other instruments. Rock Band is less free in that regard, because obviously a song should be fun for everybody "in the band". Both have songs that suck, sure, but both have plenty of songs that are fun to play.

To the guys in the UK:
Amazon.co.uk lists the Rock Band bundle at 100 pounds, not 200? What are you guys talking about?

Rock Band, no doubt. It's like Guitar Hero plus expansions. Now when I play my copy of Guitar Hero 3 it feels like I'm playing a fourth of a game.
