What company do you think deserves the title of RPG King? BioWare-Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate. Bethesda- Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3. Ion Storm- Deus Ex. Obsidian-KOTOR II, Never Winter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol. Black Isle Studios- Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, Brotherhood of Steel. Who do you, the Escapists, is the best?

Edit: Sorry, I accidentally left out Blizzard, Square Enix was excluded for the reason of them making more than just RPGs. BioShock, SystemShock, BioShock 2, and SystemShock 2 are more of FPSs than RPGs, so 2K also was not mentioned but feel free to say them if you wish.

Bioware hands down. You forgot the first NWN which was Bioware, as well as the first Kotor. I favor TES above all else, but Bethesda just has that, while Bioware has so many great ones.

Sorry 'bout that, sorta didn't want to associate BioWare with Obsidian's knock-offs in any way

Bioware, followed by Obsidian.

I've never been as enamoured as most people seem to be with Bethesda on this site. Their games are okay, interesting even, but I never feel very "RPG" in them. Morrowind and Oblivion both felt like hack and slash (especially Oblivion) and Fallout 3 was a shooter with a few light RPG elements added to the mix, most of which felt very inconsequential.

Bioware takes the cake, and if they continue as they are, they likely always will.

Obsidian for second? Really? Huh, I didn't think they had many fans.

Bioware, they have the distinction of never making a bad game ever, they're the Pixar of video games.

Then you should have ommitted NWN2 and Kotor II then instead. Bioware made those from semi-scratch (semi since its DnD and Star Wars, not new fiction) Obsidian just made (often considered) lesser sequals to Bioware's gold.

Bioware definitely.

But didn't Black Isle also produce Planescape: Torment? I'd say that earns them an honorary second place, with Obsidian with a close third. If Obsidian would JUST learn how to finish up their stories better and work out the bugs in good time.. They'd be a serious contender with Bioware.

Issue with that is that Obsidian did not make very many well-known games so I had to put some generally well-known ones for them.

Nothing will surpass the place Diablo 2 and a couple of the FF games on my favorite RPG list, except maybe Diablo 3 and FF13 versus (once they both come out). So it's Blizzard and SE for me.

I will go with Bioware because Kotor is pretty much my favorite game of all time, and I love both Mass Effects. The main reason I love Bioware rpgs is because their games always have great characters like wrex(mass effect), Alistair(dragon age), and HK-47(kotor).

Then why even suggest them? How can they be RPG kings if they reside in Bioware's shadow?

Looking Glass. System Shock and System Shock 2? Yes sir. Black Isle did Torment so they come in a close second.

I thought KotOR2 was incredible. Better than KotOR1.

It was hampered by a rushed release date (Thanks Fuck you, LucasArts!) but despite that it was still a superior game. The story and characters especially.

I've not played Alpha Protocol yet, and I never got around to finishing Neverwinter Nights 2 but from what I did play it was decent to good. Again, possibly better than the first, but I never got around to finishing it so I can't give a fully informed opinion on the matter. From what I've read, I'm going to quite like Alpha Protocol as well, so I have that to look forward to.

Obsidian gets a bum rap (admittedly deservedly at times) for overly buggy games. If you can push through the bugs, you can see the gleam of true brilliance which shines through at times. It should speak to how much I enjoyed KotOR2 that that *one* game is enough to make it beat out the three Bethesda titles (Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3) that I've played.

Of course it's all irrelevant while the Zone of the Enders series still exists, since nothing will surpass that for me.

Because they are not associated with BioWare and they have a few games that are not sequals of previous games.

And how many of them are popular? Obsidian is known for the games it makes that were made by others first. In something arguing which is best, how can you argue for something that's own stuff is unkown, and known stuff is just attached to others?

Honestly, I put that there to keep flaming about it out of the post, I personally didn't think anyone would vote for them.

Gotta go with Bioware on this one. They have such a consistent standard of excellence.
