It's the blight dammit!

I'll read the rest once this nerd rage settles down.

Okay...I'm better now, first of all, yo dude chillax you're like freaking out, I'm all for sticking it to the man, but you are like taking it to the extreme and not in a good way.

Seriously i do think you are getting pissed over nothing, Hollywood trying to make a quick buck on our nostalgia is nothing new, and its not just us, heck take a look at every "best picture" oscar winner, its nothing but nostalgia fetish, just not for our generation, i do doubt that the 90s will make a comeback, it was just too silly a era.
The signs are inquivocable ("Beavis & Butthead", "Scre4m", "The Slayers" fourth season, the latest "X-Files" movie, etc...). BTW, I'm an aumateur film critic, so I DID watch those movies, all two of them. How could I make fun of them otherwise?

Paranoid much?

You're right about one thing though; anime back then wasn't loaded with fanservice. Instead they were dubbed by a company that called rice balls "donuts," turned a respectable female character into a stereotypical valley girl, and cut out an entire story arc because they didn't want the kids to know that one of the characters' mother died.

Since the last decade was mostly about imitating stuff from the 80ies and early 90ies (and...well, terrorism), i'd rather see some new and fresh stuff, thank you.

Also, outside of some cool cartoons and the two possibly greatest popcorn movies of all time (Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park), the 90ies mostly sucked retrospectively.

Just thinking about Boy-Bands, trashy Techno-Music, "Girl Power" (and Spice World), Eddie Bauer Clothing, the whole EXTREEEEME thing and Image Comics make me cringe.

EDIT: Note: I did grew up in the 90ies, not the 80ies, so yeah, not even nostalgia does the trick for me.

You do realize everything you complained about is on Hollywood and the Entertainment Media in general, and some of us were too young to even do anything or remember anything about it right? Rocky IV, NeverEnding Story 3, Pound Puppies, Home Alone 3, Tank Girl, Judge Dredd, and Mortal Kombat are some of the movies that sucked even when they were fads.

Also, nice attempt at a quick-paced humor, unfortunately, Yahtze-esque/Nerd/Nostalgia Critic humor doesn't translate well to pen and paper.
Ouch, that really really hurts... you may not believe, but I use to be like this even before discovering the wisest voice on the Internet.
Oh well, now that is surprise. Rare to see someone who types like that naturally, how peculiar.

That was just the crust of our decay, if you ever saw a movie called NeverEnding Story, and then saw part 3, you wouldn't even have to think about the 90's, for a lack of better terms, "sucking" at all, just make a badge which says "NE1 -> NE3 = 90's".

I remember the 90's as a haze of bong smoke, booze, flannel shirts, stoner/grunge rock and an intense dislike for indie brit-pop kids that didn't stop me becoming lifelong friends with some. Actually I don't remember the 90's that well. So I expect a reboot of The X-files is coming?
Oh sweet Jesus, NO MORE "X-FILES"! That series is DEAD and not even all the Yggdrasil leaves in the World will be able to resurrect it!
(That's a "Dragon Quest" reference, btw ;))

Good times... Wait a minute.

OT: Yeah, let's keep that decade buried in its shallow grave. I only really liked the video games from that era anyway.

Oh right, the CD-i. Yeah, leave most of the games dead too.

I even used the awesomest word in the English vocabulary ("Cluster-Fuck": a mess, a ruckus, or something chaotic, that goes beyond normal standards of acceptance) before him. Although I have to admit that I learned so much more exciting insults from the man, like "Twattercake" and the simple, but effective "Fagballs".... absolutely priceless.
BTW, everyone should use the word "Cluster-Fuck" more often in everyday's life! Example: Me watching a random Michael Bay's movie: "Men, this movie is a Cluster-Fuck!" See how natural it is? Best word ever!

...talking of course of the forsaken 1980's Uprising! Just because all the geeks, nerds and the Seth McFarlenes that watched too much TV and movies as kids, became the lords and masters of Hollywood, WE had to endure the most unrequired and annoying massive revival of a single decade's pop-cultural fetishes EVER! Seriouslu, who the hell needed to make a fu****** 200 million dollar blockbuster out of the bloody "Transformers"!? A bunch of toys that spawned an otherwise semi-forgotten franchise!? Who the hell needs another "Ghostbusters" movie (oh yeah, it's coming, fellas) that everyone will inevitably hate!? And was it really necessary to remember things like "Clash of the Titans", "He-Man" or even the Gobots!? Really? The Go-Bots? (On the other hand, that "G.I.Joe" movie was pretty good)... and whose fault is that? Well, mostly "Family Guy"... but also YOU, the fans!

Ok, ok, I don't really blame you. You are the one who suffered the most by this whole ordeal, you have my symphaty.

Anyhow... I'm guessing that, since this is a brand new decade, and "Beavis & Butthead" ARE in fact coming back (although, as always, NOBODY asked for that outside of the hardcore fans), the time for the "Glorious" '90 has finally come, right? I grew up in that weird decade like, presumably, many of you, and I have to tell you... if they're bringing back stuff like "Animaniacs", "Pinky and The Brain", "Freakazoid", "Darkwing Duck", "The Critic", "PowerPuff Girls", "Samurai Jack", "Johnny Bravo", or "The Simpsons" (when they used to be good, that is), I will parachute myself into an active vulcano while frolicing in midair dressed as a ballerina... and I would die the HAPPIEST death in the hystory of Joy!
Bringing back the '90 could be exciting, after all: back then, TV programming was overruled with anarchy, cartoons were awesome, anime weren't overridden with fan-service and FPS stood firmly on their PCs.... you know what? Bring the '90s back! I mean, what's the worst thing that could possibly happen? Sexual harassment in workplaces? Michael Bay directing the "Captain Planet" movie? "Seinfeld" is considered funny again? "Scre4m"?

Well, your post is far too, for lack of a better word, upset, about the "90s" (stop using '90, I keep reading it as circa '90). There were heaps of great things in the 90s, let's face it, it's such an unoriginal period of time, it was just the 80s calmed down with 95% less bad taste, and 25% more technology. Seinfeld is still funny, Frasier was brilliant, in fact, there were several sitcoms during the 90s, so many 'they' were almost considered a plague, until we were stupid enough to watch reality TV, my god Darwin did not account for that f**k up did he?

So why not? There'll always be bad remakes, so long as there are remakes, the standard 90% of them will be terrible, if you liked the original, just look at the A-Team movie that was released, barring Liam Neeson's involvement, was a tragedy to myself and other fans of the original series.

Let the 90s do their worst.

If the 90's are going to make a comeback, then Michael Bay better not make a Beast Wars movie. I'll go all Khorne Berserker on his ass if he does.

You mean back when:

- Games were great.
- Guitars, metal, and grunge were given playtime during MTV?
- Before reality TV?
- When PC games were fun and inventive?

But in all defense as well...it did have quite a bit of crap. And Clinton. Never forget, there was Clinton.

I really, seriously think (as a film critic who was never a fan of the original product) that "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" is one of the best summer blockbusters I've ever seen (which is the same as to say it was a golden ring amidst a huge pile of molten scat, which are basically all the other summer blockbusters): it's fun, with a good pacing, with action and narration blend pretty well together without bothering each other, it's ironic but not a self-parody, the villains are over-the-top like in a comic book or anime, it looks good (not a blatant cluster-fuck like Michael Bay's movies), and it features sword fighting ninjas with jetpacks, among a million other things... it's one of those movies who not only is proud and unapologetic about its own nature, but it's also directed with a certain savoir fare. It's overall enjoyable and I couldn't stop yelling "G.I.JOE!!!!" for a while after that. And before you say anything, know this, I'm a film critic that every year goes to Venice Film Festival to watch so-called "Film d'Autor". So, I have an open mind about what to base my criticism from.
I believe Moviebob can explain why that movie is awesome better than me. Check his video review.
Anyway, it's ultimately just an individual opinion, just like yours :)

I am not American... didn't suffer YOUR worldly renouned BAD voice dubbing... I DID, although, suffered some of your bloody EDITING! Luckly, in my country (Italy, the worst country in the world for many OTHER reasons), we used to take most anime series directly from Japan... In fact, we knew old school anime franchises like Tatsunoko's "Yatterman" and "Casshan" better than most Marvel or DC superheroes... before becoming movies, that is.

Amen on that. Come to think of it, the whole Post-Roger Rabbit "Cartoon Renaissance" ordeal was probably the BEST thing from that decade... and the Playstation... and PC Adventure Games ;)
