Over the last decade, humanity has suffered a plague far worse than The Blight in "Dragon Age: Origins"... an ever expanding disease that made our guts torn inside our body and vomit blood, thus leading us towards an excruciating and painful death... I talking of course of the forsaken 1980's Uprising! Just because all the geeks, nerds and the Seth McFarlenes that watched too much TV and movies as kids, became the lords and masters of Hollywood, WE had to endure the most unrequired and annoying massive revival of a single decade's pop-cultural fetishes EVER! Seriouslu, who the hell needed to make a fu****** 200 million dollar blockbuster out of the bloody "Transformers"!? A bunch of toys that spawned an otherwise semi-forgotten franchise!? Who the hell needs another "Ghostbusters" movie (oh yeah, it's coming, fellas) that everyone will inevitably hate!? And was it really necessary to remember things like "Clash of the Titans", "He-Man" or even the Gobots!? Really? The Go-Bots? (On the other hand, that "G.I.Joe" movie was pretty good)... and whose fault is that? Well, mostly "Family Guy"... but also YOU, the fans!

Ok, ok, I don't really blame you. You are the one who suffered the most by this whole ordeal, you have my symphaty.

Anyhow... I'm guessing that, since this is a brand new decade, and "Beavis & Butthead" ARE in fact coming back (although, as always, NOBODY asked for that outside of the hardcore fans), the time for the "Glorious" '90 has finally come, right? I grew up in that weird decade like, presumably, many of you, and I have to tell you... if they're bringing back stuff like "Animaniacs", "Pinky and The Brain", "Freakazoid", "Darkwing Duck", "The Critic", "PowerPuff Girls", "Samurai Jack", "Johnny Bravo", or "The Simpsons" (when they used to be good, that is), I will parachute myself into an active vulcano while frolicing in midair dressed as a ballerina... and I would die the HAPPIEST death in the hystory of Joy!
Bringing back the '90 could be exciting, after all: back then, TV programming was overruled with anarchy, cartoons were awesome, anime weren't overridden with fan-service and FPS stood firmly on their PCs....
You know what? Bring the '90s back! I mean, what's the worst thing that could possibly happen? Sexual harassment in workplaces?
Michael Bay directing the "Captain Planet" movie?
"Seinfeld" is considered funny again?
"Scre4m"?

...
......
............................
On second thought, PLEASE stay dead '90! Don't ruin MY childhood! I prefer the memory!

Your opinion on that?
I would loathe a repeat of the 90's. That decade was one of the most backwards times in human history. Case in point, post-90's is when atheism really appears to have taken off, and become socially acceptable, especially in the media.

to the OP, what do you have against Seth MacFarlain and Mike Judge? Those guys created some of the best stuff to come out of the 90's (barring the Simpsons which was having its hay day.).

edit:

OT: In terms of music, a 90s reoccurrence could only be a good thing.
for generations to come, people are going to view the music from the 90's the same way my generation views Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
I don't have anything against Mike Judge (I loved "Beavis & Butthead", although "King of the Hill" bored me to death), I just think that someone like those two cannot possibly exist outside of the '90s. As for McFarlaine, I like his shows just like the next guy... but "Family Guy" has long lost its sense of novelty (the whole "Simpsons-Rip-Off-but-proud-of-it" and "Constant-Pop-Cultural-references-every-two-minutes" premise has started to wear on the show's credibility, and has become repetitive, plus, practically remaking the original "Star Wars" trilogy was the most horrible thing any TV show could possibly do... there are like a MILLION "Star Wars" parodies it's not even funny anymore!)... even "The Cleveland Show" feels more refreshing than that, even if it's basically black "Family Guy"... I think "American Dad" is the best of the three.
Call me paranoid but given Seth McFarlene's immense success with his shows and the fact that he started making references to 1980's TV before anyone else, I can't help but think that he was indirectly responsible for horrible things like the "Transformers" movies.
And there you have it.

So were going to see a film adaptation of the clone saga which will mean everyone will get to hate spiderman. Well at least Joss Whedon should create something good.

Worth it. Just for "Gargoyles".
Yes! Also, Transformers: Beast Wars wouldn't suck too hard either ^^

Either way, even if they start re-making all the worst stuff of the '90s it's not like it's the end of the world. Brace yourself for when the world is struck by '00/10s nostalgia instead :p

I SERIOUSLY hope you were being sarcastic here, and I was just being an idiot for not noticing. Please tell me this is the case.
I really, seriously think (as a film critic who was never a fan of the original product) that "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" is one of the best summer blockbusters I've ever seen (which is the same as to say it was a golden ring amidst a huge pile of molten scat, which are basically all the other summer blockbusters): it's fun, with a good pacing, with action and narration blend pretty well together without bothering each other, it's ironic but not a self-parody, the villains are over-the-top like in a comic book or anime, it looks good (not a blatant cluster-fuck like Michael Bay's movies), and it features sword fighting ninjas with jetpacks, among a million other things... it's one of those movies who not only is proud and unapologetic about its own nature, but it's also directed with a certain savoir fare. It's overall enjoyable and I couldn't stop yelling "G.I.JOE!!!!" for a while after that. And before you say anything, know this, I'm a film critic that every year goes to Venice Film Festival to watch so-called "Film d'Autor". So, I have an open mind about what to base my criticism from.
I believe Moviebob can explain why that movie is awesome better than me. Check his video review.
Anyway, it's ultimately just an individual opinion, just like yours :)
You just made me a really sad panda. =( I cannot for the life of me imagine why someone would like that movie.
I wouldn't have said anything about your arguments even if you didn't tell me you're a film critic and whatnot, don't worry about that, I just thought it was probably the worst action movie made in the history of over-the-top action movies.
Though we won't get anywhere with this, so I'll just drop it.

Cool effects though!
Can't be possibly worse than "Revenge of the Fallen".
I disagree. Not saying RotF was good (it was pretty damn bad), but not worse than G.I.Joe.
At least, in "G.I.Joe" you can actually understand what in the world is going on in the action sequences... when I think back on any Michael Bay movie ever made, ALL I can think of is a blurry mess with no shape, the sunlight burning my eyeballs and some American flag peeking from an angle... and that umbelievable twat that also starred in the fourth Indiana Jones movie (a whole legacy of Suck!)

Really? No-one? I'm gonna have to do it?

Alright.

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE!

The 90's are making a comeback! Excellent! I can't wait for comics to go back how they were! Todays comic's have too much talking and junk, and not enough awesome gunfights! Like, Deadpool and Cable would just start the issue trying to kill each other, and just keep doing it, man, with no stupid talking to ruin it! Excellent!

And movies can go back to being awesome! Forget stupid junk like Inception or The Kings Speech, those movies have too much talking and philosophical junk! If I wanted people to talk about pbhilosophy I don't understand, I'd attend my stupid classes! Movies should be about this one guy we like because we've seen him in other things! Like Cool as Ice, or the Spice Movie! Those Chicks were so hot, you didn't have to care about the stupid plot!

And TV can be excellent too! Today its all stupid dramas! Some of them are extreme, like Dexter kills these random dudes, and its totally awesome. But then he says thats wrong, and I'm all thats Lame! We need more shows like NYPD Blue, where the cops would dish out justice with extreme force, but no-one would just talk about what it meant.

And comedies are stupid today too, cause they don't tell you when to laugh, and the actors all have stupid non american accents. I shouldn't have to know when something is funny, the show should tell me so I can KNOW its funny!

And videogames can go back to the decade that gave us Shaq Fu, which as we all know, is the most EXCELLENT videogame EVER!
Ha ha ha oh oh oh uh uh uh

Its the 20 year cycle, and its inescapable, but this sucks because the 90s sucked pretty hard. I almost expect to see a return of Happy Days for the 3rd time.

Note to Self: Invest in Denim and Boy Bands. Ill be a rich man!

And although the 20 year cycle somewhat dominates popular culture, the real gems of entertainment and value usually don't subscribe to the cycle. Stuff that feeds off the nostalgia usually tank hard once the cycle moves on. Dont worry, we just have to wait it out, 3650 more days to go!

Well, understanding what is going on is easy in G.I.Joe, since it has the most predictable plot I've ever seen.

Are we really in a position to comment as the generation that released Big Rigs?

To be honest, I'm one of those awful people that really gets off on tacky retro crap. The 80s is my pet-decade, but I'm not especially bothered about a few crappy 90s trends coming back- fashion is cyclic, and this will continue to happen forever, so you may as well get used to it.

I do agree about shitty remakes though. It's one thing to bring back old fashions and tropes, but it's another to just reboot everything every few years and pretend the original never happened.
I try to ignore them, but I keep ending up seeing them anyway. They are almost invariably crap, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

I'm as confused as I believe OP is. Is it the 80's (Transformers, Ghostbusters, He-Man) or is it the 90' (sexual harassment, Scream, Johnny Bravo) that you're talking about?

I believe Clash of the Titans was released in the late 70's.

I wouldn't consider Ally McBeal and Dawson's Creek "anarchy."

And one more thing...what was so great about the ot's? Was the last decade, characterized by hatred, fear and American Idol, really so much better than the era of The Fugees, of Pulp Fiction and Heat and Braveheart, of ACTUALLY GOOD First Person Shooters? No.

But I didn't participate in the poll regardless, for if I ever acted/spoke like that my friends wouldn't hesitate to tie me down and get to de-toxin'.
