Metro 2033 is pretty cool. Lot's of rough spots, but the good stuff makes up for them. Although I think that was made in the Ukraine. But hey, close enough, right?

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games aren't up to much. I recommend avoiding them. Plenty of other people like them though, so maybe I'm wrong.

Stalker SOC (with "complete" mod, or at least get a bugfix mod)
Stalker CoP

I like the stalker Series especially because of their "open" maps, exploration elements, hostile enviroments (anomalies) and nice atmosphere. Its fun.. if a bit easy (i always play on master difficulty. Not hard at all. Just keep your distance from the opposition, aim THEN shoot.)

Metro wasnt that good imho. Too linear. Gas mask are bugged/confusing. Guns are weak. It has its good points but i wound not recomend it first.
One of the things i liked the most was pickinng up loot straight from the corpses of my ennemies.. but (as usual) bad guys often have nearly unlimited ammo, wich you never find on their corpse if you defeat them early.

Glad we live in a day and age where the entire eastern hemisphere can be summed up as "Russian".

Red Orchestra for multiplayer.

Shadow of Chernobyl with the complete mod for single player.
I was aware that the developers of all of these titles are Ukrainian. Fine, I'll just call of the game themes above Soviet, since that's what best describes them.

What the fuck are you talking about? Do you even know what the Soviet Union is to make such a statement? Hell, are you even aware the damn thing collapsed in 1991? Stop assuming every state from Eastern Europe is "soviet" in nature. RUSSIANS are not soviets and just because those games feature Russians that does not mean you should automatically assume they follow the Soviet ideology. It's insulting to say the least.

OT: METRO 2033 is an awesome game. You should try it.

Or, you know, East European. The Soviet Union doesn't exist any more, you know that right?
That's what they want you to think.
Stalin's just in cryo sleep, which is a technology they took from the Nazi's after the war.
And Putin is actually a time-traveller.

I'd say don't get Red Orchestra, wait until the sequel which should be coming out later this year.

I've heard a lot of good things about STALKER, but my recommendation goes to Metro 2033.

Having played none of those games, Metro 2033 makes me drool. It looks like a darker fallout. I've been waiting to get the book but none of the book stores in my area have it yet.
I had to import it from the UK (or rather, my mum did). Still, it was a damn good book.
OT: My vote goes to Metro 2033. I've played STALKER CS and COP, too, but Metro 2033 is just an amazing game. As said above, the book is recommended too.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

It's quite a bit different than 90% of all the other FPSes out there, enough so that it takes some getting used to. Most players will feel kinda "lost" first getting into it. You're not forced to follow the games storyline in any specific order, nor is there any time frame involved, either.

Besides, the modding community is extremelly active, and there's tons of awesome mods available for it, too - keeping the game alive, fresh and well.

There's a lot of myths about the game being buggy as hell - but once patched there aren't really any major issues. The AI tends to occasionally get glitchy, but the AI is quite complex - you won't find many other games on par in terms of the amount of stuff that goes on "behind the scenes."

Metro is good, too - but extremelly linear. You'll get more enjoyment in the long-term from STALKER. I'd start with either SoC or Call of Pripyat, first.

All of them? I mean, hell, you can get almost all of the stalkers for about (separately) 10$ and Metro 2033 for 15-20$ aswell. Use Ebay, its your friend

You can't go wrong with any of the game's you've selected, except... for the love of god don't get Clear Sky.

If you forced an answer out of me I'd say Shadow of Chernobyl, that game is great!
trust me, I'm Russian ;)

If you get one of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, I STRONGLY recommend you get the "Complete" mods for them.

Here's the link to the CoP version which should lead you to the two other ones aswell: http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-pripyat-complete

By the way; My favourite is SoC, so I recommend that one over the others.

You need to play the best russian shooter game ever made:

GTA: IV.

It has guns and bowling :)
...And is not Russian.
Well, Niko's Serbo-Croatian is terrible, so we can call him Russian like his voice actor.

Well I just finished Call of Pripyat, and I thought it was great. I haven't beaten the other two but I did play SoC for a bit and I didn't really like it. Metro 2033 was good too but a bit too linear when compared to the freedom of STALKER. I haven't played Red Orchestra yet but It seems pretty good. Last thing is XENUS 2.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzRd2ygfTPo go to 1:28 for the full awesomeness of this game
