Lets take a lookie at the ballistics, shall we.

Desert Eagle: 300gr (19g) JHP
Velocity: 1,550 ft/s (470 m/s)
Energy: 1,600 ft*lbs (2,200 Joules)

Smith & Wesson M 500: 300gr (19g) Hornady - Elastomer Tip
Velocity: 2,075 ft/s (632 m/s)
Energy: 2,868 ft*lbs (3,888 Joules)

Ballistics say the S&W M 500. I'm more familiar with the Desert Eagle, so that's what I'm personally going with.

My choice would be the SW 500, since it can blow a bigger hole in you. Neither weapon is particularly accurate at longer ranges (for pistols), so I'd go with slightly more collateral damage to compensate.

Considering the Desert Eagle is apparantly one of the worst handguns ever made, I'm going to go with the S&W M500.

Are you high? The Desert Eagle is a quality weapon. There is nothing particularly bad about it, and it can carry a .357 magnum, .41 magnum, .44 magnum, .440 Cor-Bon, and .50 AE, meaning versatility, but you must, of course, switch the barrels and whatnot to accommodate the new round.

THAT is my pistol.
Erm, I believe that's a rifle, good sir.

OT: Desert Eagle, because it has an awesome name, is shiny (so is the revolver sometimes), and is generally fun to use.

Neither firearm has much utility for combat scenarios, and as such either weapon must be judged by some other criteria (hunting utility, reliability etc). In each regard, the S&W 500 is superior. Simply put, the 500 fires a far more powerful round (500 magnum versus .50 AE) lending it the capacity to take down most any game animal. Additionally, the inherent mechanical reliabilty of a revolver works doubletime here as the chief concern with the Desert Eagle lies in the fact that the weapon has regular difficulty moving brass out of the way and failures to eject are (relatively) common.

The Desert Eagle is, all told, little more than a proof of concept that very large caliber automatic handguns are possible to build if not entirely useful. Smaller caliber versions of the desert eagle are made, and most are more inherently useful as a combat worthy weapon. The Jerico 941 is simply a service side arm that can fire either 9mm or .41 AE. The former round, though common in most militaries, is poorly regarded for combat purposes (in ability to penetrate armor, relatively low stopping power) and the latter is fantastically rare.

I choose a desert eagle 10 inch, but as you know I choose samurai edge and ARWEN 37 any day.

Nah, they're just overcompensating. Real men don't need to rely on massive bullets, all they need is a compact, light and precise weapon. You don't need a .50 when you're good enough to put 1 bullet in the brain, and real men are good enough.

Hence, neither, I prefer pistols. They just look so...sleek, efficient, precise. Especially the .45 USP:

I go with a .45ACP.
The Desert Eagle is really one of the worst handguns ever made.

Nah, they scream "I have a small penis and I can't aim and thus need to rely on massive bullets instead of going for a quick headshot!" Plus, they're far from stealthy and incredibly unwieldy. However, in a Western setting...

"I have a small penis and I can't aim and thus need to rely on advanced faggy pistols instead of going for a quick headshot with a revolver"

Close, but no cigar. The small-penis metaphor works with most revolvers people often gloat about because they're huge. They serve as a shock-and-awe weapon, a bit like a baboon's fluff; very intimidating, but ultimately meeh. I mean, they're heavy, unwieldy (there goes your quick headshot), kick like a mule and hold only a couple of rounds. Why would anyone want such a massively unpractical weapon?

The Desert Eagle, of course, is a pistol with which the small-penis metaphor also works. It has all the disadvantages of those huge revolvers ánd the advantages of a pistol and pretty much none of the usual advantages of pistols.

Whatever you say girlfriend, I've wasted enough time discussing weapons in a gaming forum.
