Depends on the situation. I generally tend to just use the infinite lives/health cheats or sometimes infinite ammo after I already played the game or got as far as I am going to get without getting too frustrated.

In most modern games, I just take a peek at a walkthrough though. They generally aren't near as hard as older games, which I have a bad habit of using cheats in.

I use walkthroughs for collectables or the Water Temple, Double Agent puzzle cube style puzzles that detract from my enjoyment of the game. Nowadays I never seem to get stuck though unless it's whoops I turned left instead of right and I'm now overthinking ways to get past this impassable wall

Usually a walkthrough, being as I would rather just get past the part im stuck on and then figure out the rest on my own. plus very few games even have cheat codes anymore anyways.

Walkthrough. If it weren't for that, I'd never had been able to get past a part in Half Life 2.

I only use cheat codes for entertainment purposes. If i get hopelessly (and i mean HOPELESSLY) stuck, i look up a walkthrough. It's pretty rare for me to get stuck, though.

Never cheat codes, those are reserved for sandbox game rampages only. Although if I am really confused I will use a walkthrough.

depends upon the nature of the obstacle. If it's something that a little bit of intelligent playing, and applying skills can overcome (or failing that, reading a FAQ to see how OTHER people do it), then no problem. If it's something where you need to get some other item first, and all this means is just deferring this part of the game for later, no problem.

But there are cases where it's either unreasonably hard, or would require such a significant amount of backtracking that Iwouldn't even bother with cheats or walkthrough. I'd just quit playing.

Usually a walk through or a strategy guide is the way to go. You still accomplish things where as cheating is gaining an unfair advantage over the game.

I don't cheat, plain and simple. I consider myself above outright changing the rules. That being said, I'm not above taking advice.

Also cheats are still amazing if you feel like either a) breezing through a game with god-like powers just for fun or b) dicking around (see gta vice city).

If I have no idea as to what I'm supposed to be doing I use a walkthrough. I use cheats all the time on my PS2 but I have yet to use any on my PS3. I don't want to disable trophies.

I usually figure eveything out myself nowdays (It is sorta different now days than the problems I had to face in Silent Hill 1)
And My gaming skills in each area have gotten so good lately than I can usually finish games on Hard after playing them on normal once. Also I have no life that helps.

I use cheats to increase fun. People say they make it less fun...they just dont use it in fun ways.
I sometimes when trying not to, can get fed up and use the internet to get through.

That really depends upon the cheat and how it's used though.

I've definitely used cheats in games before just so I can mess around in game to see what the game engine can do. Though by this point, I usually have played said game back and forth a million times.

No, it depends on the imagination.

I never use cheats unless I've already beaten the game on the hardest difficulty and gotten all the achievements and such. I'll use a walkthrough if I'm seriously completely stuck, but I only use it as a last resort.

I think its really dependent on the game in question and the reason why your playing the game.

If its a game for which Im playing for the narrative in a narrative heavy game such as a final fantasy, I will usually cheat from the offset, as the time sinks in working around mobs and puzzles is a distraction.

If its a game that the purpose is a challenge, such as Demons souls, I will not cheat under any circumstance as that would defeat the purpose of me playing it.

Some games where the challenges presented are ones I know I can overcome with patience.

Also,"cheating" in MMORPGs is a substantially different beast. In my personal view, looking up walkthroughs, dependant on how they are written, feels like an immersive quality. Like a sage pouring through vast tomes of lore trying to uncover a well hidden secret to undoing the ... uhh.... good.. plauging the land (yes I RP evil) So that I dont see as cheating. However things like buying money I see as utterly deplorable.

So.. In short. It depends.

Walkthrough if I'm really stuck.

Cheatcode if it's a game mechanic that I think is badly implemented (impossible boss fight, perhaps). I'll try it first, but if I'm interested in seeing the rest of the game but frustrated with the current point I may use an exploit to bypass it.

I never use cheats unless I've already finished a game. If a segment is too difficult, I'll never turn the difficulty down. I'll persist until I succeed. However, if there's a confusing puzzle or I don't know where to go, I'll consult a walkthrough.

I quit using cheats back in the days of Tony Hawk 3. I usually use walkthroughs, and if that doesn't work, I'll just have one of my friends beat it for me. Yes, I'm looking at you COD 5, what with your grenade spamming and all.
