Now before there is a surge of flamers, I want to say that I don't have Skyrim but I plan on getting it and playing the shit out of it for hundreds and hundreds of hours. I'm just a poor college kid right now and waiting until I can afford it. But I did preorder Saints Row 3 and am absolutely loving it! As much as it gets called juvenile (it is), it also have tight gameplay mechanics, phenomenal voice acting, compelling characters and a good story. Not mature or anything but good in the sense that you always want to know what happens next etc.

Also SR3 doesn't seem to be getting that much attention in the forums with all the billions of Skyrim threads.

TL;DR - Does SR3's juvenile tone mean that it can't simultaneously be a solid game in its own rights? And how do the people on the Escapist feel about it, I know people here tend to be PC gamers and apparently the PC port is very well done too.

Saints Row is awesome I must say. It really goes so over the top with it nonsense that it stops being offending.

They're both great for different reasons. I'm going through Saints Row first, but only because it's the shorter game. I'll play through it's story mode then pick back up with the Skyrim character I started before SR3 came out.

As for the poll, I'm afraid there isn't an option for me. I haven't beaten it yet so I don't know if it's better/worse then the older games. Based on what I've seen though, I'd put it at "Different than ealier SR games, but just as fun".

Just wondering, why isn't there an option to say that one feels that the third installment is equal to the second one?

I own Saint's Row the Third and it's a helluva lot of fun. But, compelling characters? A good story? No, I'm afraid Saint's Row does not even come close.

But, it doesn't need those things to be great. Sometimes goofy brain-dead fun is enough.

In a word, no.

it's a party game to me, if friends are round, going on a mindless spree is fun. Doing it on my own, nope

Eh. First of all, no it's not better than Skyrim. Skyrim's well on its way to being my favorite game ever.

As for SR3 vs. SR2, it's a clear step back in almost every possible way. It's less...everything. Aside from the vastly improved character models/animation, I can't think of a single other area where it's made any improvement, which wouldn't be a huge problem except that they just made the whole game smaller. The map is smaller, there's way fewer stores and types of stores, the new characters just aren't as interesting as the previous ones, and the customization's been cut in half.

It's still fun, because as I've said elsewhere, being inferior to SR2 doesn't make it a bad game. It's still better than most other games. It's just too bad it's such a step back.

I loved SR2 it was just so much fun I still have a laugh with it today with milk-bones cheat ha ha. Wouldn't mind having a go on SR3 but I doubt it will be much better than SR2.

Saint's Row 3rd has the most epic character ever.
BURT REYNOLDS!

That being said, Skyrim and Saint's Row are two different animals.
It's like comparing apples to oranges.

I have them both, they are both really fun. Basically it boils down to what I start playing first that day. Whichever one I put in first doesn't leave until I turn it off and maybe I'll switch out the next day.

Wouldn't that depend on the genre you secretly liked better?

SR3 is a somewhat different game than Skyrim. If you're basing it off player freedom or how much to do in the story, then it's probably Skyrim. If you mean mindless, brainless, fun then it's SR3.

I don't know. I'm just me.

When I saw the thread title I was mostly curious what strange creature has enough free time to really explore both games fully.
