My hope is that they took a cue from Yahtzee from when he reviewed SR2 noting that we need a game in which you play a supervillain maneuvering to dominate a city. Yahtzee pointed out that SR2 was as close as a game ever came to that. I hope that in The Third, they took it in that very direction.

i agree with just cause 2 being unbeleivably fun and hilarious, but the thing that makes saints row 2 stand out, is that you earned your extra crazy weapons and styles, dont get me wrong just cause 2 was awesome, but starting out with all of the necessary tools to cause mass destruction gave me not too much motivation to do any story missions, but goddamnit it does help me blow off steam every now and then

You sprayed shit at housing, cops, and people to lower property value, and could find a giant, skyscraper sized bunny in Saints Row 2. I would be disapointed if it wasn't serious, it's one of my favorite traits about the game.

dead rising 2 was ruined by its seriousness, i think we can all agree on that, without 20 minutes for fun and then you have to find zombrex and do missions, it would be a brilliant sandbox game but i was so annoyed at the fact that i just found out how to make a lightsabre but then i had to stop my fun for my story missions, plus dlc with more combo cards could keep me playing for longer

definately it seems that saints row 2 is one of the only game that has stayed completeley clear from seriousness, other games are full of it, and some have a small amount but what makes saints row 2 brilliant is that it didn't want you to feel bad at any point, now saints row the third prides itself on being borderline crazy and silly and that is what other game developers used to think was a stupid idea, and yet here we are talking about how much we love it on forums :D

As long as the game doesn't expect me to take it seriously, it should be fine.

Or at least don't let the serious and silly overlap like this:
omfg that was hilarious, made me cry with laughter

Saints Row 2 was a heap of fun, but my favourite sandbox crime game has to be GTA 4.
It was bold, revolutionary, had a city that felt alive, a great soundtrack, and an awesome storyline. The multiplayer was fun too.
The ridiculousness of Saints Row 3 looks very appealing, though. Might get it, eventually...

Just Cause 2 beats all GTA games. It's got better graphics, more unrealistic physics, lots more fun, and less crude dialogue.

What? Where was this?
An Easter Egg. You sail around some off-the-map hidden islands, then one of them teleports you to a random area in the sea. Then a giant pink rabbit slowly rises out of the water.

There's literally no reason for it and that's why it's amazing.

San Andreas is my favorite free roaming game. It has over the top moments, but everything it does seems realistic, even though it's not. So you get the best from both worlds.

What I loved about Saints Row was that the universe was just as silly, like even without the Boss running around it was messed up I mean pirates fighting ninjas?

now we all now that saints row two took a left turn into crazy street, but looking at the next game there seems to be a completeley new concept as it has gone over the top amazingly, I mean killing mexican wrestlers with a giant dildo...
what i want to know is what do you think? is it going to ruin the series? is it going to make it stand out? does it put you off buying it? i personnally cant wait for the game :D
Actually... THEY NEED MORE SILLY!!!!!

But mexican wrestler killing with a giant dildo sword does sound hard to top...

I loved SR2 and SR3 is looking fucking awesome (the opening mission has you jumping out the same plane twice!)

Though i wish sometimes you could pick a different path through missions rather than "open door and ownificate" every single time.

I suppose thats what the activites are for.

That is all.
Only thing that seemed too much so far to me.

As for bad guys, do we not remember that one of the bosses from the last game used a freaking VOODOO doll as a weapon? It's not as outlandish as a dildo, but it's far more outlandish than luchadores.

I always really liked it how in the first Saints Row game your character doesn't talk but at the end he just randomly says 'Can we hurry this up I want to go get some Freckle Bitches' I was laughing so much.
Meanwhile, in Saint's Row 2:

Julies: ...You look different. Did you-
PC: I DIDN'T DO SHIT TO MY HAIR

Didn't you hear? That Fart-In-A-Jar thing was a bit too over-the-top for Volition too, so they cut it out.
