I like scary games but find most of them not so much scary as just having instances of startlement. Fatal Frame was one of the few games I actually dreaded playing and I loved it!

Condemned
The first was scary because it was plausible, admitedly I only played the demo but walking through a messed up building with crazed drug addicts is something that could actually happen and that added a level of fear that other games lack.

Dead Space
Refuse to play this because the death scenes scare me too much. If I was gonna play it I'd have to be invincible or it would be too scary.

Resident Evil
As other people have said the regenerators in RE4 are terrifying. Killed one, turned around and right there was another one. So glad I crapped before playing so all there was was a loud fart.

Doom 3
Me and a friend were playing this at his house at night with the lights off. It was my turn to play and he was sitting in front of his bed watching me. When one of those hell knights put it's head through a door he lept off the ground and back onto his bed. When playing it in a normally lit room there is no fear aside from when things pop out at me unexpectedly but like Yahtzee said that's just easy horror.

Aside from those any game that features spiders is too scary. I tend to either use excessive force or find a cheat that lets me skip it.

I have to ask...
What is this frog avatar the OP has that I've seen a lot of other people use? I swear there's like 5 people on here with that same picture as their avatar.

OT: I can't handle scary games. I quit during the Medical Pavilion in BioShock, and apparently most people here don't find that game scary at all. It freaked the everliving shit out of me.

Hell, Husks in Mass Effect scare me. This genre of gaming is just not for me.

STALKER wasn't exactly scary but the first time I ran into a controller(i think that's what they are called). It made me jump when it did that mind attack thingy, plus it was dark tunnel and in russia.

None of the above.

Amnesia is actually a really boring game if you're not scared.

Only one Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth mention? That had it's moments. Well.. When you aren't going :O A DEEP ONE!! EEEEE!!!

It was pretty well done though. Too bad the company went bankrupt and didn't do the rest of them. :(

Doom 3 wasn't scary, more annoying. Flashlight didn't last long, so the "scary" bits were no light. But shotgun, wandering around really isn't scary when you have a shotgun. Unless it's in Stalker where the shotgun doesn't insta kill. -.- Bloodsuckers are annoying.

F.E.A.R. was pretty good, very cinematic, decent story, fun game. First game I found even mildly scary, stalker was next, Call of Cthulhu after that. Didn't really find most other games scary. Res Evil was just annoying, no ammo doesn't equal scary.

Condemned 1 still holds scariest game ever for me.

The enemies are real people, driven mad. That shit could really happen,
Kinda makes you wonder if all those dying birds everywhere are a sign?

Yeah Condemned 1 is just amazing. There's this one room in the subway level that gives me chills. No other game has ever come close to that.

Get through the labs in Stalker without crapping yourself. I dare you.
I did. I only pissed myself.

No, I crapped myself in Amnesia, Penumbra, and Fatal Frame.

I am so glad nobody voted for Dead Space yet. It's not scary at all. In fact, I was just playing the DS2 demo, and I jumped once because I had the volume up and that big thing crashed down. But not once did I feel any tension.
Yeah I didn't feel scared in all the game, but I should mention that the game is pretty good, just not scary.

Scuse me? I think you forgot a little game called F.E.A.R.

It stands for 3 things:

First Encounter Assault Recon

Failure to escape Alma rape (F.E.A.R. 2)

Fuck everything and run
Yeah I know, I just have 8 spaces, so FEAR can be in others, I just put the "popular" games i remember about horror, I really forgot about FEAR and put DOOM. So anyway that why you can specify here.

Played Silent Hill 1 when i was about 14 and it scared the hell out of me. I'm still too scared to play Silent Hill 2...instead it just sits on my shelf mocking me. Oh yeah and I'm 26.

I love horror games but none scared me more than Fatal Frame (2 I think)
Played it with two friends and all of us were scared as hell and throwing the controller at each other because no one dared to keep playing.

We did not get far in that game...
