I think it was acceptable. Besides, in the next "rape" cinematic you can hear that the monster is clearly enjoying it (COUGH).

If PH would've been raping something else than a monster it would probably have been a bit different thing.

In my opinion, It's all contextual. That scene isn't in that game cause it's a rape scene. It's in their to show how F**cking scary pyramid head is. I think games like Postal are inappropriate, because it's just killing for the sake of killing. I think contextual violence is ok, but violence with no reason is not.

So I was having a discussion with someone after telling about how I played Silent Hill 2, and saw the scene where Pyramid Head rapes two enemies, and we argued whether that kind of thing is okay to put in video games. She said it was disgusting and made no real reason to have it, while I said that it did. It was an introduction to Pyramid Head that gave the real impression that you're supposed to fear him, that if you meet him, he's just not going to kill you, he's going to traumatize you, destroy your mind. It called for great characterization and made me fear him even more.

The question is, do you think that scene and scenes like it are appropriate to put in horror games? Or are they not? Do they serve a purpose worthy of putting them in?

Like so many things in life, it depends on the circumstances. If the scene is meant, as you said, to characterize the character in question as cruel, evil, monstrous, etc. then it makes sense and is appropriate. However, if it's stuck in there for nothing more than shock value, as a way of "pushing the envelope", just trying to get a rise out of you, then it's highly questionable at the least that the content needs to be in there.

In the case of Pyramid Head raping monsters, it's not soo bad, but if it were a human being raping another human being that would be too graphic.
