That's hilariously screwed up and a system which is just waiting to be exploited by pedophiles.

You can tell whoever thought up the idea was just a pervert who enjoys watching kids doing what they do in private.

Seriously, I can't think of any other reason you would think this was a good idea.

If the kids could all stop doing things like texting in the middle of class we wouldn't need to spy on them.

Of course they're justified. If the US government is justified in doing it then so are they. I say that everybody in the States should be spied on, starting with their President. Who wants to be the first to attempt to tap his phone and computer? Oh, and let's not forget the CIA, someone go tap their e-files as well.

[/sarcasm]
You realise that electronic communication is also heavily monitored now, and the fact you have put "CIA", "President", and "Spied on" all in that will mean it will be flagged by the CIA, and you will be rubber gloved, water boarded, then held in a cage in Cuba for a few years?
Now that you noticed that they will come for you aswell...wait i just noticed you...*hears knock on front door* I wonder who that could be!...

The school has one purpose: to teach the kids while at school.

What the students do in their own time is none of the schools bussiness, the only thing they should carea botu is whethe rthey do their homework, and they should care only to the extend of giving bad grades for bad work.
I dunno why the school thinks it's suddenly a police agency or something, guess crime flicks haeva bad influence on teachers...
Maybe we should inform Jack Thompson and have hiom look into it, then we might get a break from him telling us how we're all feces-throwing homicidal psycho's cause of our gaming habbits.

How on earth could this have been considered a good idea? Spying on high school students through webcams sold at the school is just wrong on so many levels.

But what do you think? Are youth so corrupt these days that the schools need to keep a constant watch on them?

My opinion? Hell no!
Damn, Ninja'd.

Anyway I lived near there.

I heard it all weekend, and I want to say that: The guy used it to spy on a boy who he believed was selling drugs. So he decided to catch him in the act.

Busted.

It's ironic that these places of education are often capable of some truly fucking idiotic behaviour.

I'm pretty sure the school should encounter a huge review by the nation school authorities. This kind of thing shouldn't ever be able to slip the radar.

Ok, pardon my french but who the fuck do they think they are?! On what possible grounds do these shit-faced dog-fuckers have the right to access these webcams on a student's computer and watch what they do in their own home?! Ok, yes it was to be used to recover reportedly stolen laptops but a GPS tracking system would've worked just as well. Jesus H Christ, it gives the term "Big Brother is Watching You" a scary new meaning.

Thought police are fictional. Someone should tell them that.

I agree in the sense that it's fucked up to secretly watch kids through the computers because as the article says "this is fodder for child porn", after all there were probably several sick individual wacking off to some students who were doing the same. However, you cannot entirely discredit it, granted there should be limitations but if there is abuse going on, but neither the child or parents wants to fess up to it, this is a great way to catch them in the act. It's effectively a pick your poison situation, of course the school sealed their fate when they didn't disclose that information anyway.

This is pretty much the ultimate betrayal in my thoughts, i'm what the hell, you have a right to access the computer only if it is being used for illegal actions, but NOT THE FREAKING WEB CAM and without telling the students or the parents that you can do it ON A WHIM. Holly crap i shutter to think what i would have been called into the principal's office for if my school could have viewed my web cam. "Sorry Mr P i just got out of the shower I didn't know I had to wear cloths in front of my laptop IN MY BEDROOM!" >.<
