Which do you prefer Sci-Fi or fantasy?

I personally love Sci-fi (KOTOR, Mass Effect,Fallout, ect.) and I just cant get into a fantasy game the same way.

I actually tend to be 50/50 in the regards to which I prefer. Some Sci-fi RPGs rock and others fail hard. Same goes wit fantasy. Though the number one fail fantasy RPG is Two Worlds currently.

I prefer fantasy. Just something about playing an RPG with a gun feels...off. Don't get me wrong, I played and love Fallout 3, Mass Effect, and KOTOR but they still feel wrong to me.

All sci fi rpg's are to me is just a shooter and thats why i don't really like new esque rpg games because they try to make a game with fireballs and swords into shooters.

Fantasy has Planescape Torment and Morrowind and a host of other stellar titles.

Sci-Fi has what? KOTOR and not much else worth mentioning.

I feel that the scifi rpgs have more originality because all fantasy games have the same recipe

1. start off killing rats
2. have some orcs/ orc like creature/ or demons as evil doers
3. elves are noble
4. dwarfs are skilled craftsman with beards and like beer
5. humans are racist pricks
6. a quest that brings them all together to dispatch the evil and then pretend it never happened

QFT.

I'm 99% Sci-FI when it comes to games, but right now I am in love with WoW-so that would be the only fantasy game I've played and enjoyed.

I've about even but I would say fantasy just because of the enemies, they're bigger and more threatening, imo. I like how epic some of the bosses in fantasy RPGs are. Sci-Fi, I do like the characters more for the most part (Wrex from ME and HK-47 from KOTOR). I don't like the western fantasy RPGs with their dwarfs, and elves however.

I have always liked fantasy more than Sci-Fi. Books, movies ,and videogames. I also like RPGs where you get like new swords. I don't see the difference between lazers which is better. It's just a thing I have always been into.

I like both types of RPGs equally. I also like the idea of mixing fantasy and sci-fi into one game universe. I liked the Cyberpunk setting of Final Fantasy 7 and 8, because it broke away from the traditional fantasy setting and included fantasy elements in a largely sci-fi universe. The Steampunk setting of Final Fantasy 6 was pretty awesome too. It looks like FF13 will go back to Cyberpunk, but the fantasy elements will be more obvious. This, I like.

I know I've only mentioned Final Fantasy so far, but don't get the wrong idea. I'm NOT a fanboy, I'm just using the FF games as an example of how RPGs can mix sci-fi and fantasy into a formula that works nicely. Trust me, there's a long list of other RPGs that I love. I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2, having imported my data from the first game. So far, the entire game is made of win. And now that I've actually experienced mineral scanning, let me say this: It's not the best part of the game, but people are making it out to be worse than it actually is.
