After playing the TF2 Scout Update, I've compiled my own ideas on the weapons released.
The Sandman - A wooden baseball bat similar to the steel one the scout already wields. It also has a secondary feature that it fires baseballs to stun enemies. The disadvantage of the new bat however is that the scout must sacrifice his unique double jump.
Verdict - Very fun idea. It's very comical to chase behind an enemy and plow a baseball into them, only to finish them off with the scatter gun. The removal of the double jump however is not too bad after a few test plays on live online servers, as the dodge ability the double jump gave is easily replaced by the stun effect of the ball.
'Bonk' Energy Drink - The item which replaces the scouts pistol, a consumable energy drink that "Packs all the 'Atomic Punch' you'll ever need". It has been said that drinking this power drink will allow for dodging bullets as if they never hit you. The downside however is there is a cool-down stage where the scout travels incredible slow
Verdict - Very limited usage. The inability to use any other items while invulnerable makes it near enough useless for anything except running away, and when that happens, you are at such as range that your weapons are useless. At best, it is a good distraction for your teammates to lay a beatdown on the enemy.
Force-A-Nature - A shotgun which provides a knockback feature and faster shooting speeds, which adds an interesting take on play.
Verdict - Quite mixed, I can't tell if this useful or not yet... The knockback feature, if used properly can lead skilled players into a triple jump feature, the faster shooting speed also makes it acceptable for combat, and there is an added bonus of every shot unleashing an extra 20% of bullets than the scatter gun. However, there is some serious disadvantages, like the 33.33% ammo clip of the scatter gun, the slightly slower reload time and the -20% damage per bullet, it takes skill to use this new item effectively.
So if you have unlocked any of these items and tested them yourselves, how do they fair in your eyes?
