Isn't there a movie coming out that reminds one of Fallout? It's called the Road, hitting DVD shelves soon, week from Tuesday I belive.

I say Fallout because while the story is based on a story of choices, the point is survival, and if done right, could make a movie in which the struggle of surviving in a wasteland comes to life. I've only played F3, but I'll eventually give 1 and 2 a chance, and I'm for sure getting New Vegas. It also has a chance of making it into a franchise, making each game a movie, and making new routes avaliable. It could even create a new genre of at home movie experience, make your own movie. Plan a route, take a something, bam, unique movie. As long as it has Liam Neeson as dear old dad I'm perfectly happy

none for select reasons

fallout, open world, make your own hero, too much variety, best kept as a game
gears of war... horrible dialogue, and i couldnt take any "whoo its the cole train baby" blasting on a 30 foot screen and theater quality surround sound... although, i bet the gun fights could be kinda epic
portal, too short

I am a huge Fallout 3 fan, but my vote has to go with Gears of War. Fallout 3 is just too open-ended for a coherent storyline to F3 was the exploration.
He said fallout, and i assume he meant the fallout universe in general, not just Fallout 3.

Just think about it: the nukes go off, the world dies. A hundred years later, conflicts amongst the Vault's clean society end up in having our main character (who can be anyone, from convict to engineer) leave the vault and roam the wastes. We get to see the wasteland's true face through the main character's eyes, with strong messages towards what war can do to the world. But in all that chaos, we find that there are still good people out there: a poor family on the outskirts of a destroyed town recognises him as a child of the wastes and offers him a home, and he ends up tied in a conflict between warring raider gangs in an attempt to protect them. The family dies, and just when he thinks it's the end... the Brotherhood of Steel come up, take him from the rubble and the movie goes into a completely different arc: having learned that there are still things worth saving in this rotten world, our hero joins the Brotherhood of Steel in their conflict against the mutant horde, and ends up dying valiantly on the battlefield. At the end, the Vault's residents emerge to find the arid wastelands that he helped protect, and unknowingly witness the legacy made possible by the one they exiled. The movie ends with the protagonist's faithful dog companion (obviously there has to be a dog) looking at the newly-emerged vault residents from a nearby cliffside, as if watching over them. Life in the wasteland continues.

See, it's quite easy to make up a fallout story. The content's basically already there, imagine what someone could do with more than 5 minutes of thinking.
I'd pay to see that. ^_^

And yeah, I kinda meant the Fallout universe.

For Fallout, for me, I'd like to see Mel give a cameo as the original Fallout protagonist, with Russel Crowe as the Vault Dweller and maybe Scarlett Johansson as Miora, ^_^
NO!

And your friends suggestion of portal is just insane. The best thing about that game are its gameplay and humour. Remove the gameplay and you'd just be watching someone make portals, you wouldnt be trying to figure out some of the patterns you have to go through to get past a point.

I'd like to say Fallout, but realistically it would remind me of when Square made that Final Fantasy movie. It's always a different character in every game, so you wouldn't have a face to identify with. You said you'd like to see Miora in it, but why should she be in it? Fallout 3 was one game, and it was set futher away from the originals than any of the others. Even the next fallout is going back to the west coast area.

That's what I mean when I say its always different characters in the Fallout games, with the exception of Harold who had a cameo in all so far. It would like most video games to movies get botched.

In a perfect world I would say Fallout for sure as I love wasteland apocalypse movies.

What's wrong with Russell Crowe?

wow, in the list of games that would make good movies, these are far from the top of mine...

portal could make a cool break out movie though, maybe in the same vein as Moon.

Wheres Bioshock? A game with well realised characters and a plot thesis that can be developed beyond shooting crap out of people.

Gears has been made a million times already.

Portal lacks a story, the cake is a lie would only last so long.

Would have to be fallout, plenty of stories to choose from to milk to death, if the first one goes well.

I'd go with Portal as The Road and Starship Troopers have already been made.
So has 'The Cube'
Great shout. Guess none need to be made.
Meh ... everything has been done before ...

I fear that an original idea would either be so strange that the director is pandering to his own unique vision (which is great, don't get me wrong ... Takeshi Kitano's 'Takeshis' was awesome) or take the wussy way out and create a movie so strange and expect viewers to find their own message amidst the madness (also good if done right like 2001: A Space Oddyssey or adaptation of Catch-22, but when it goes wrong ... it goes horribly wrong ... Sliding Doors, I'm looking at YOU).

At the same time, GoW movie will just pander to the gamers and people who loved Aliens ... Portal movie would just crib notes off Cube (or more like, cribbed notes for the game and stole the concept of a heartless and unthinking machine that creates obstacles to ruthlessly test the subject(s) both logically, acrobatically and psychologically). Fallout 3 would have lots to pay homage too ... Mad Max - wanderer type, The Postman, and Book of Eli (Given religion played a part in FO3).

But these aren't bad things as long as the movie doesn't crackwise about it's influences, and takes a well thought-out plot and brings it outside the box.

It's not about whether something *needs* to be done, but whether we can take an existing archetype or thought and change it into something that entertains.
You sir are slightly legendary. I hope others read this.

None of the above can recreate the atmosphere of the chosen game with a movie, so this poll doesn't make any sense to me.

Fallout easy. Portal's cast of characters consists of a mute, a robot, and an inanimate cube, and GoW is just kind of... stupid.

No vote. Sorry, but I can't see any of them getting thru Hollywood at the moment without becoming Megan'ed. And that's terrible.

Actually...Megan Fox as Chell...Angelica Houston as GLADos...and keep the original ending...hmmm
