Well that's not in "99%" of all games, but I assume you mean new games. It's a fairly new thing that seems to happen to games that use HD graphics. I guess you have to have a giant flat panel HD TV to read them.

So, obviously pre-HD games didn't have this problem. Come to think of it they didn't have voices either. More fodder for my old man "back in my day games were better" argument.

First off, all text on the screen at any given point is so small that you need a magnifying glass to see it, and secondly, the dialogue is recorded at such a low volume that you need to have the speakers blaring to be able to understand what is being spoken
I find these problems especially bad when I need subtitles to see what the characters are saying but the text is too small to see

Does anybody else find these sorts of things a problem?
The text is small because of high definition, if you lower the resolution you get bigger text.

Games today are too dark (Visually).
Bang on the money.

I have difficulties in seeing what is what in Fallout 3 to the point I waste time going to investigate what I think is a boost like Nikola Tesla to clicking on a small burnt book.

Deus Ex never had this problem and that game is notoriously dark.

console games which are yet to be 1080p (native). I can only enjoy 1080p with blu ray, and I don't have many BD movies cuz I only buy BD when I know they used a decent camera to shoot the film. Some parts of the dark knight were shot with imax cameras, yay.

I think one of the worst games for being to dark is GTA4, it seems everytime I run from the police I end up driving under a bridge where against all ends I end up on the dark side of the moon and crash

The bigger problem is that games are either too dark or too bright.
More time is spent on making games look nice while barely any time is spent on the games actually playing like they should.

There have been enough games where the game looked pretty but the hit/collision detection was shit, the AI was pathetic and enemy placement in levels looked like it was done by a bunch of 10 year olds with ADHD and a massive amount of sugar.

A complaints thread sweet a few grievances reccently. Why can I not pause during cutscenes or conversations in so many games? Seriously the phone goes, my door goes I need to rush to the loo but I'm in the middle of an important part of the story or getting into the immersion we have all been there at least once.

And what happened to minigames? Good minigames they were always a nice way to pad out a game wiht more content if done well maybe offering items for them if done well etc, unlike games reccently which seem to enjoy ramming fetch quest after, fetch quest down my throat *looking at you ass creed 2* still a great game mind.

You know what all games need? EXHIBITION MODE.

Your friend comes over, so you fire up a game to display its various appeals. Of course, your save is at some exceedingly boring part that doesn't give the whole feel of the game.

Why is the default option for subtitles always set on "off"?!
What? They're generally set 'on' - a total pain in the arse. Fire a game up for the first time, and have your eyes directed to the wall of text lined at the bottom.

I used to have issues with the tiny text, until I got a HD tv, and a High Definition Multimedia Interface cable. I have no trouble with reading the text now. If you already have an HD screen, then maybe you should get your eyes checked. Could be possible you need glasses.

That's called the "Menu Screen".

I hated Prototype for a lot of reasons, but making me crank my volume, so the speakers would explode at a pin drop, just so I could barely make out the dialogue is so NOT cool.
Fecking THIS. They really fucked up with the volume levels for that game.

There are of course those REALLY annoying bits when background music drowns out the dialogue. I hate that!

holy god yes, i fuckin HATE having to go to the menu's and screw with the music/voice/sound effects for hours, where the sword and jumping sounds will make an earthquake but the voices at the top of there lungs are barely whispers...then after the dialogue, there is a cataclysmic roar from your speakers as the game goes back to its "normal volume"

why dont they just amp up the font on the text, and make the right joystick a scroller for the text? is it really that hard? takes up the same amount of space but just bigger font

Actually, in the gaming community, we call it the "Opening Cutscene".

Yeah, this is a problem for me too.

You know 'The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend' mission in MW2? I had to play it again cause I couldn't hear the dialogue. Which kinda sucked, because that mission was emotional.
