Overt sexuality on a product's advertising/boxart/etc. usually makes me suspicious about its real value (especially after X Blades). Also, even when the actual content isn't overly sexual, sometimes the marketing people play it up so hard that it becomes embarrassing (anime is particularly guilty of this).

it definitely doesnt for me.
i dont care if you get a gorgeous man and slap him in the adverts for anything, i wont be more inclined to buy it. in fact, i'd be far less inclined to buy it because i tend to think that if they're using sex to try advertise & sell their product/game/whatever, it obviously doesnt have much in the way of content that is interesting & less sexually inclined. ie. a game that has an attractive person on the cover only makes it aesthetically pleasing to me and i might have a wee look in the shop before i leave, but i'd only buy it if the gameplay is good. if i want the eye candy in a game, but not the actual game, ill google screenshots of it!

It discourages me from buying it. If they have to resort to such sleazy means then their product must not be any good EVONY*COUGHCOUGH*
Ok back to worshiping the toad avatar....

You're right. However you're only right in that the OP wasn't talking specifically about games but was speaking in general. I have also seen those adverts that the OP mentioned and likewise have thought 'so this is the measure people are going to in order to market stuff'...

Also, nothing was being asked of my original post, there was just criticism of how i worded my thoughts. Granted it was short, to the point, and disregarded any sort of unwritten social rules of posting, but sometimes it's nice to shake things up; it's nice to give the gritty reality of things.

As for have i bought anything due to the sex factor: No. Games i buy due to reviews / recommendations etc, but not due to the massive boobs on the cover.

(I was meant to be quoting someone, but unfortunately it didn't work)

Actually, i'm not a troll.
No, see, you are.
Calling everyone "gay" is sort of an indication.

I was giving a refreshingly honest opinion.
Just because you think you're the only one who's being honest doesn't mean you're not wrong.
It just means that you're pathetic because you're incapable of exercising willpower.
But hey!
That's okay!
We must be gay.

Sex does sell.
To idiots.

You only have to select a handful of recent games to realise that the producers think exactly the same.
Well, yeah.
They're selling games to idiots.

I'd go through the rest but I'm bored already.

You can do that without looking like a troll.

Then why do you think everyone here does the opposite?

Hit "quote" instead of "reply."
Reply doesn't do anything.
You've got too much time on your hands.

to answer your original question:
pre-pubescent boys

personally, i don't give a fuck. sex or no, if an ad is wank, it's wank.

EDIT: to the post above - way to go xees! pointing out the blantantly obvious.

Half of the people that answered no, probably are just pretending they're above their base mammalian desires.

I'll be brief, yes. I'm not ashamed to say it. Sex sells and I buy. So what?

I'll, yeah, its affected it, but do I buy solely on it? Hell no, take Tomb Raider, yeah Lara Croft is nice to look at, but the story and the setting is what sells those games to me. Yeah, the gameplay sucks, and some of the story is bull, but theres not too many games out there that talk about mythologies any more. Its mostly aliens nowadays.

Whoa. I've tried this one. People with too much time on their hands will claim that they don't...when they clearly do. As this post will clearly be quoted and analysed i shall leave a secret for them to discover (get a life idiots).

No, it doesn't. It even turns me off from the product. If they're desprate enough to use sex to sell, then it's probably crap.

With more people complaining about the Evony [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/6825-Experienced-Points-Evony-Irony] ads, I figured now is as good a time as any for this thread. Has an attractive woman/man ever sold you on a product?

Personally, no. I tend to not want the product afterwards, usually.

And yes, the title is a Megadeth thing.

EDIT: Please note, this does not apply to just games, it could be anything. Also, it doesn't have to be the cover, either. It could have a perfectly basic cover, but the ads and trailers just featured the sex.
LOl Megadeth rules good reference

No portraying sexy women with a product doesn't get me to buy it, it actually repels me because of the retardedness.

I have never ever bought anything because there was sex in it. The closest I ever got was buying Lost Girls, but that was more because of my stubborn determination to own every Alan Moore original ever, rather than knowing the subject matter.

I find adds "selling sex" so to speak a bit off-putting for very personal reasons: Lara Croft. When I was younger and more innocent she was was my hero, and then I grew up and found out that she wasn't meant for me(who was dying to be a GIRL in game for once) but for the boys who liked her short shorts and barbie-like proportions. I felt betrayed, watching my beloved role-model turn into a cheap collection of voyeuristic camera angles...

So yes, I don't like sexualizing something for the sell because it helped kill my childhood innocence, and I hold grudges. Curse you marketing gods! Curse you!

Some sarcasm intended here, but really, I am put-off by using scantily clad anyone in ads(bulging pecs kind of creep me out to be honest). Movies, I am more impressed by a well-developed character or interesting premise than anything else. Even the movies I see just for the actors involved are more to do with liking them(Ryan Reynolds reads Deadpool!) and their taste in roles than anything else.
