I'll still watch the commercial, but I won't buy the product just cause of a nice pair of melons or a perfectly shaped ass.

Sex will always sell wether you admit it to yourself or not. A pretty guy or gal will ALWAYS attract more attention. Your attention.

Say anything else and you are lying to me, him, her and yourself. Facto.

EDIT
Also poll needs more answers or good answers. Like "I don't live in a fantasy world" or "Yes it does" or "They try to appeal to as many as possible so it's bound to sell to you/me at one point or another"

I'm right as usual... deal with it.

Sex sells - i think that's undeniable.

If an image is not selling, its most likely because its not sexy, rather than because sex has ceased to sell. Large amounts of cleveage is perhaps too generic an image to raise any interest?

I'd have to say that sex does not in fact manage to make me pay for stuff (well, except for sex, of course... be it in cash or in drinks at a bar).
However, no commercial based on flashing boobs will get me to buy stuff, because I firmly believe that a man can indeed look at an attractive woman without thinking about sex. I never managed to prove this novel theory of mine, though :p But seriously? Will buying brand X I saw on TV get me in bed with those good looking twins in sexy swim suits that appear in the commercial for brand X? No fucking way in hell. Unless brand X is a BMW or something.
Still, sex in advertising will make me watch the commercials and stare for minutes at a time at the pages of my magazine, but that's about the extent of what my dirty mind will react to.

It is starting to be over used. Once it is an everyday thing no one cares anymore.
it's true, saying that you watch porn these days holds about as much weight as saying that you breathe air. I find that more and more women are tuning in these days which actually means that the market's getting larger.

Where's the "It's never did and I find it offensive that they think I'm that stupid" option?
It has nothing to do with stupidity. If you're past puberty (I suppose you are) I extremely doubt that sex never did sell to you.
Does it take logic of anything higher than a 6 year old to realize "hey if I buy that, this person in this commercial who looks sort of pretty will still never care about me?"
Fallacious argument. Thats not how marketting works. You see breasts & associate them with the product. When you see the product you then associate them with breasts & purchase becuase in capitolism the sexiest man is the one with the most money, spending is sexy.
You? Who is "You?"

I don't.

Sex sells, but it's a misconception that any bit of sex is going to sell just by being sexy. It is possible to fail utterly with such attempts, which become mock-worthy.

If anything I think we're way too prudish. I think we need to start bridging the gap between "porn" and regular entertainment. I find it ridiculous that something typically either has to be sex free, or non-stop eroticism/sex. Good middle grounds are few and far between and under constant attack. But this goes into other issues I have talked about before.

As far as advertising goes, I'm all for it, despite answering that I'm a "big boobie fan" I will say that sex appeal is a craps shoot with me, sometimes it can sell me on a product, but othertimes it convinces me the product is pure cheeze. It depends on what is being sold, and how it is done.

sex will always be appealing, we're progammed that way. it's on the sidelines of just about everything.

of course just because something sells doesn't make it good. i'm much more tired of pathetic programmes like soaps and reality shows getting the ratings. i don't mind them being made, fair dos - they're cheap and easy to make, but for these shows to get 20x the viewing audience of decent programmes is the reason we don't deserve better shows.

It does. The movie "Titanic" sold like hotcakes in arabia because it's name in arabian slang meant "let's have sex."

And do I even need to get started on video games? X-Blades, Onechanbara, Dead or alive... the list goes on and on. Enough to make a bra for every sex object game character. And maybe leave alyx vance topless... joking.

Then you are female or lieing. You are genetically programmed to react to displays of flesh.
With sadness, disgust, rage?

Yeah, around there, yes.

You sound like one of the people who actually bought DoA beach volley ball. :/

Advertising doesn't need to make you immediately buy the product; it just needs you to look at it. Boobs are great for this purpose. I'm sure most people can think of a few slogans or commercials off the top of their head because that's what advertisements try to do - get in your head so that when you actually want to buy say, a cleaning product, you'll be more inclined to buy the one that has been advertised to you because you will be more familiar (and thus, comfortable) with it.
