This just further proves me justified in asking Team Ninja and Nintendo, "Where the SMEG is Jennifer Hale in Metroid Other M?!" It pissed me off that they emphasized sexy over practical and appealing. >_>

Anyways, I prefer Female Shephard cause yes, she sounds a lot more nicer, her voice doesn't get on my nerves like the Male one does. However, I do enjoy how.. well, light hearted the Male storyline feels at times. But the Female one is definitely my preference. You have that optional lesbian relationship, which I'm a little ashamed to say I did look for when I first played the game. But beyond that, it just feels a lot more serious and interesting. As someone else said, the renegade/paragon paths feel more like the same character as opposed to two different ones. Also as one other person mentioned, the male character (as is a problem with a lot of these games) is just so massively uncustomizable that I can't stand to look at the guy for too long. Looks nothing like me, for one, and for two I've never found big hunky body-builder types to be the slightest bit attractive. Said in a non-homosexual way, of course.

I like both. I'm connected to my version of both male and female Shepard. I tried to make a Male Shepard that looks like Lester Freamon (The Wire)
And he actually looked a lot like the guy, but it's too strange hearing the voice come from a different face. It's the same way with the female Shepard. Both of the voice actors did a good job. They have different approaches (male Shep is better at sounding friendly, female Shep better at being intimidating), but I enjoy both.

FemShep. Sorry to say, but Jennifer Hale does a far better job in my ears than Mark Meer. Meer's okay, and he improved drastically from ME1 to ME2, but he's still not as good as Hale.
This.
Mark just sounds... generic. I like his voicing, but Jennifer just does it so much better.
That, and Female Shepard just seems to be able to embody the decisions we make at times in a non-asshole way.

I dunno, for some reason if I play male Shepard without the default face, his voice seems to be eerily unlike the actual character. Jennifer Hale's voice sounds good no matter what face I put on it.

For me, my canon is always MShep. (choosing dialogue responses that I'd choose)
On consecutive playthroughs I'll match the gender to ren/para, which for me is male renegade and female paragon.
What that says about my mental state I don't know, but I think has more to do with the fact that I don't feel physically threatened by women, whereas I do by some guys, and renegade to me means physical intimidation. That isn't to say some women can't be scary as all hell, it's just I haven't met one, and so it doesn't click in my mind.

As I've mentioned in previous "video-game-voices" threads, in the ME titles Jennifer Hale does the best voice work I've ever heard in a game. (If a description is needed, I think "a hundred nuances of kickass" would be appropriate.)
That said, it's not the voice alone which makes a character - the model also makes a difference and it can be hard as heck creating a satisfactory avatar. Reading this thread, I realize that I'm not the only one having had problems with that. It's far easier making an acceptable-looking male Shep, but I eventually got my FemShep just right and so she's my main character.
I have yet to finish ME2 with my other imported characters - Meer's voice work did not particularly suit nefarious Zak Shepard, but wasn't too bad on Jherman Shepard, mild-mannered engineer.:D

This I believe. Jennifer Hale is what defines Commander Shephard for me, it is her voice acting that makes a fairly stereotypical G.I Jane-character into something more.
Meer isn't bad, but Hale really embodies (envoicens?) Shephard and her lines are almost always perfectly delivered for the situation in which they appear.

I play male sheppard, I mostly used the default face, but I did try to make him look like Steve Rogers when playing paragon.

FemShep.

Mark Meer's voice makes me want to drive a letter opener through my ear. It's also always nice to see a strong female protagonist who isn't all about the T&A.

Well, my main Shepard is a Renegade Femshepard. I haven't really had much experience of playing through with a male Shepard (I have a save set up with a male Shepard which I'll use as a aragon run through).

There's just something my badass female shepard - her actions combined with her rather harsh features combine to create an aura of severity. Perhaps it is something about the female badass persona us guys may prefer. Conversely, would our womanfolk prefer a male badass shepard over a female one?

I just like FemShep's voice.

It's more vivid and punchy than ManShep's mono voice.

These exactly.

Male-Shep's voice just annoys the hell out of me.

FemShep.

1) Jennifer Hale is one of the best vg voice actors around. I'm reserving judgement on Mark Meer until I hear him in an actual playthrough instead of short youtube clips, but when I heard Hale was on board, by choice was altready made.
b) It's interesting and original to play a truly kickass female hero for once, and even more interesting and original to play one that's not overly sexualized.
iii) Her standard face is really pretty :)
