Poll: Shepard or Femshepard?

FemShep. She has the better voice, she doesn't feel as cheesy and she's a good character even when she's a guy. I actually wish FemShep was the canon Shephard.

But yeah. The thing is that her voice is, or is nearly, perfect for a tough-as-nails space marine lady, especially the one I played who had a mouth sharper than a sacrificial knife.

i personally think jennifer hale is a better voice-actor.. but maybe thats the metal gear solid fan inside of me talking =P
but i think the game is a lot more dramatic with a male shepard so i have a male soldier and female biotic shepard characters each

Now that I'm giving them a proper comparison, it's not just our bias. Femshepard's voice actress is way better at sounding angry.

Female Shepard. Maybe it because my first ME play through was FemShep, but I just cant get into the Male Shepard. For me, my first Shepard will always be THE Shepard.

Interestingly enough, I actually prefer male Shepard's voice acting. My main runs are predominantly paragon, and in that term I find male Shepard more fitting then female Shepard. I have nothing against female Shepard, for she has some great voice acting as y'all have mentioned, but my preferences just tends to lean more so towards male Shepard.

Although I have noticed that female Shepard does sound a bit better in the renegade approach to the game, so I guess for me it has a lot to do with my paragon play style. A paragon run I can absorb better into the grand scale of it all, and in that respect male Shepard pulls ahead for me. I really don't have any true problems with male Shepard's voice acting.

They play slightly different, especially when you make decisions opposed your dude. My dude for example, was mostly a nice guy who occasionally had a murderous streak. My femshepard was a hormonal raging *****.

Makes a big difference in how things happen.

I choose male. The female role seems too forced, like it was more of a gimmick than a feature. Also the relationships are better as a male because femshep makes her relationships with her boyfriends seem more like booty calls. On the other hand, I had a hard time making the male Shepard not look like a rapist.

I choose the male sheperad becuase its easier to relate to someone of your own gender and I like his voice.

I usually play as male Shepard, because I'm a dude and it kinda feels like your playing as yourself when you play ME2. But the other day I played as fem Shepard, and holy crap! the voice actor(or actress) does a far better job than the guy. But I still like playing as the guy Shepard.

I like both. I'm connected to my version of both male and female Shepard. I tried to make a Male Shepard that looks like Lester Freamon (The Wire)

And he actually looked a lot like the guy, but it's too strange hearing the voice come from a different face. It's the same way with the female Shepard. Both of the voice actors did a good job. They have different approaches (male Shep is better at sounding friendly, female Shep better at being intimidating), but I enjoy both.

Ah, good old Cool Lester Smooth, I wonder why that never occurred to me. Being fair, I'd probably be more likely to make mine look like McNulty if I'm going with Wire references at all (he'd make a good Renegade Shep), but Cool Lester would be my second choice. Or maybe Omar. Hard to say.

I don't entirely understand all the flak people give Mark Meer. I don't mind his interpretation of Shepard. Yes he can get a little flat at times, but he puts enough emotion into his words when it counts. Lets be honest people, do you sound very energetic in EVERY SINGLE conversation you have? Jennifer Hale's version is just as good as well so lets move on.

I personally prefer Male Shepard (this thread needs more Tali!) though I do have a femshepard that I intend to get to soon enough and play through.

I don't really mind the voices for either Shepard or Femshep. I generally play male so I don't really know how much I like Femshep's voice but I doubt that I'll like it that much more than male Shepard. I generally don't evaluate the voice acting most of the time in games. Unless it's RREEEEAAAALLLLYYYY bad.

Reading this thread, I realize that I'm not the only one having had problems with that. It's far easier making an acceptable-looking male Shep, but I eventually got my FemShep just right and so she's my main character.

Really? I find it almost impossible to make a decent looking male Shepard. I finally found one that I like and stuck with that for my main playthrough. Although in ME2 I noticed that they have a code for the settings on your character's face when you're customizing it, but when you load a pre-existing face you don't see the code! That means I can't remake the face of my orignal Shepard. As for Femshep I find it a little less hard to make an acceptable face for some reason.
Overall though I'd have to say that I like male Shepard more. I can connect more with him being a guy and all. Plus playing as a female character for too long starts to feel a little weird after awhile. Even if she looks good I feel like I'm eyeing myself up. Weird.

P.S. Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed by the fact that the default faces have soooo much more detail than the customized ones, excluding your opinion of the ugliness of either type?

I overall think they both bring great performances for Shepard.

The difference is when it comes to Renegade.
It just works much better for male shepard... when he does something and all you can think of is "...wow... what a dick" Which is why I named my first renegade character Murderface Shepard.

There isn't a default Femshepard. Default Shepard is based on a face model; Femshepard is just some default settings on the sliders you use to make a Femshepard face. Note that you can't make small edits to default Shepard's face.

What I mean is that there are the different default custom faces and then there are the two default faces for Shepard. One for male Shepard and one for female Shepard. These two faces are given to you first when you create a character and you can't tweak them at all. What my point was is that these two have more detail then the customized faces. If you switch between a customized face and a default face you see an obvious change in the level of detail. I know that the male Shepard's default face is based on an actual face model, but even if Femshep's default isn't it still has a noticiably higher level of detail than any of the custom Femshep faces.
